If we win, UCF will claim it having swept UF this week. The banners are being printed and the trophy engraved as I type.

UCF is beginning to piss me off. We gotta sweep FSU and if UCF plays Noles they gotta split at least.

The noles seemed nearly invincible at 14-0 and a serious test whether our team could rise to the occasion on Tuesday, but they were swept by the deacons. I didn't listen to their games because the Gators were in some trouble with the ri rams in the ninth of game 3, but I can't help but wonder if f$u saved a weekend starter for Tuesday. We play usce this weekend, so maybe we could start our Sunday guy if the noles played that card. Otherwise, we need the SEC title more than any game against f$u..

Well, Wake's sweep of the 14-0 'Noles makes our losses to UCF less traumatic.

The knights beat up our weekday starters but they are 12-3 overall; compare that to the deacs at 7-9 overall after their sweep of the noles..

I don't think any of us thought losing to UCF was traumatic or put anyone into panic mode. Heck we lost a lot of mid week games last year, did not hit a ton the whole year and at the end it worked out beautifully. But I think most would say that type of process is not going to get you the promised land very often. Last year we had awful mid week pitching, so most of us who go to the games were hoping the young guys would be better this year and some of the frosh would produce. For the most part they have, but we have not been hitting the ball that great the last 5 or 6 games. yes we swept URI, but they are an awful team. We are struggling with getting runners home from 3rd base with less than 2 outs again this year. The concerns to me are that Langworthy looks awful at the plate still and has all season and guys like Reese and Dalton will slow down dramatically offensively.. And as we get into much better competition, especially pitching, I just hope we can maintain a decent amount of offense. Yes we have 3 good starters, but they are hittable and we are going to need to score at times, more than we did last year. a long season and the important games start this Friday!

BTW, Wake is no slouch. Made it to the Supers last year and probably would have beaten us if not for Tyler Dyson!

I had this thought as soon as they moved Sunday's game to Saturday. I thought maybe Dyson could throw about 50 pitches Saturday, then start on Tuesday for another 50 and still be ready for Sunday at USCe. That would be the only way Sully would have dipped into the weekend rotation, but Dyson threw close to 100 pitches Saturday so that is out of the question. SEC must more important so Sully going to go with all the weekend bullpen guys. Byrne of course will pitch if needed against FSU.

What's the story on Deacon Liput? I may be mistaken, but thought I heard he was suspended indefinitely.

Deacon Liput opens up about his suspension

http://www.gatorcountry.com/florida-gators-baseball/deacon-liput-opens-up-about-his-suspension/

The news came in the fall and hit home for the Florida Gators’ junior infielder.

It was the middle of fall baseball and conditioning when it was announced that Deacon Liput would be suspending immediately and indefinitely for an undisclosed reason.

The last time you saw him he was fielding the final out at TD Ameritrade, his throw landing in JJ Schwarz’s mitt for the final out of the season, igniting the eruption and dog pile as the Gators celebrated a National Championship. Now, he didn’t know when of if he would be able to join his teammates again.

Liput sat out the rest of the fall but was able to rejoin the team in the spring for workouts and practice. He wasn’t cleared to play, however, which meant watching his teammates from the dugout and then from his apartment when the team hit the road.

“Not being able to play is really hard considering I’ve been playing baseball my whole life. When something you dedicate so much time to and effort to gets taken away it’s really hard,” he said. “Sometimes that’s the lessons you gotta learn and I was able to learn from it.”

Liput sat out the first 14 games of the season, 25% of the regular season schedule, before getting a start against UCF.

“It’s very nice to have Deacon back. He definitely brings a boost to the lineup,” senior catcher JJ Schwarz said. “He was very excited. It kind of felt like opening day for him freshman year. I was excited for him.”

It wasn’t a great. Liput went 0-2 with strikeout and 0-11 heading into the second start game on Saturday against Rhode Island.

“Obviously I didn’t get off to the best of starts but I stuck with it and realized it’s not always about results,” he said. “I put a couple of barrels on balls earlier. It was just about sticking with my approach.”

In the second game of the double header, already 0-1 in the game and 0-5 on the day, he lined a double into right field. He was on the board and received perhaps the biggest reaction from the dugout that any player had received to that point. It was a big moment but a bigger one came later when a single up the middle tied the game at two in the bottom of the ninth. He would later come around to score the winning run as well.

It’s been a long road to get back to that kind of feeling.

Things could have gone differently in the fall but Liput owned up to his mistake and did what was asked of him off the field in order for him to get back on the field with his teammates.

“The most important thing that I learned is your actions off the field weigh on more than just yourself. It has an impact on everyone outside of that including teammates, coaches, university, family and everything,” he said. “I really learned from that and I’ve grown as a person. It felt really good to be back with the team. I was just focusing on being the best teammate I could throughout my suspension.”

UF falls to #2 (behind Oregon State).

UCF moves into the top 25, at #23.

FSU falls to #7.

An amazing 9 SEC teams are ranked.

Florida baseball hosts Florida State
  • The No. 2 Gators (15-3) host the first of three showdowns with in-state rivalry Florida State (14-2) on Tuesday night at 6 at McKethan Stadium.
  • Florida has won 10 of the last 11 meetings with the Seminoles, including all three last season.
  • Freshman left-hander Jordan Butler (1-1, 2.50 ERA) will start for Florida, while FSU will throw redshirt junior righty Andrew Karp (3-0, 1.56 ERA).
  • The Gators lost the top spot in the Baseball America and D1Baseball national polls, falling to No. 2, while Oregon State moved up to No. 1.

Will be there and hope for a victory, although the SEC games are much more important. Would however like to see some offensive punch against a pretty decent starter FSU is running out there. Not too worried about rankings. Play consistent, good baseball, host a regional and a Super, and the road to Omaha is paved nicely!

I'll be there as well. Taking my 86 year old Mom, who hasn't been to a Gator baseball game since the 70s. She's excited about going, although will be a little cool for a senior senior!

Went to the girl's game on Sunday; would've loved to have made it a double header and taken in the guys game as well but they were prescient enough to reschedule their game to Saturday instead of playing through the deluge of sundrops like the girls did. Who the **** does their weather?

Awesome night at the Mac, tho a bit chilly. Great crowd 6K and even tho we got off to a slow start the bats came alive in a big way and that along with a horrendous defensive 3rd baseman for SOW, opened the floodgates with a 7 spot and sent those cow tippers to another defeat against the good guys!

That was fun to watch. Leftwich, I can't figure that kid out; he's either money or he's not real gooder. Unfortunately tonight he was the latter. But dang, doubling up the Holes is always a good thing.
