Well it's getting close to pool season so I decided to have my Handyman pressure wash and seal the pool deck this week. I just didn't have the time and plus being injured I figured I would just pay him and his 2 Hombres $ 150 take care of this for me. He kinda looked at me funny and uttered something in Spanish to his 2 buddies......Figuring they weren't happy with my price I quickly said OK $200, but since you've already got the pressure washer you have to do the whole house while you're here .....Anyway when I came back later they were packing up and leaving. I took a look at the pool deck and it seemed OK(it was still wet).

Problem is that over the last 2 days I've noticed that the deck looks very dry already and the darker stones usually turn almost Black and the rest of the deck has a very glossy finish to it when done properly....I'm just wondering if anyone knows the best kind of sealer and best way to apply it. I have a 4 gallon back pack sprayer and can use that to apply another coat before we get any rain next week or should I use a roller or maybe a sponge mop to apply?

I use Thompson's in a pump up sprayer. Just be careful around the edges. If it gets in the pool it makes a mess in the strainer.

Yeah I've been trying to skim what looks like plastic wrap out of the pool for the last 2 days and noticed a bunch of it in the skimmers. Any particular type of Thompsons? I assume they make different types for different surfaces....

I'll post a pic of what I used. I still have some in the barn from last year. I do it annually, although I proabably don't need to. I used it on my brick pavers on the pool deck and the stone on the house.
The only thing I didn't like is it made the stone "shiny". Almost made it look fake.
Can't tell from the pics you posted, do you have sand joints in between the stone ?

I'd love to...That deck is quite a pain in the ass in the rainy month's. It doesn't drain well and is prone to getting mold/mildew in the lower parts where water pools and then the next time it rains it all ends up in the pool along with dirt from the planters leaves from the plants.

Alright so next years project when the cost of the lake wall has worn off

My biggest issue I think is not sealing it often enough. I can't remember but it seems like about 3 maybe even 4 years ago since the last time.....We actually like the glossy or shiny look that you're talking about but I could see why you might not like that on a stone veneer wall.

Gotta do the new dock, renovate the cottages and pavers/drains and relandscape the property first.....Sh!t never stops around here and by the time you get one thing finished something else is broken or needs to be re done.....I sure hope property values are up when Wifey decides she's had enough of my b!tching about this place

It also sucks watching it get spent left and right in pretty big chunks when you're hearts not truly in it....I'd downsize in a heartbeat if it were just my decision....But I love my wife and since she makes most of the money :lol2: I'll just have to grin and bear it....

I feel your pain. We bought our place in 2014. Less that a year in we had to re-roof. Now the pool needs resurfacing, the cage re-screening and we will likely redo the deck which is bleh river rock. And in and on it goes...

Maybe insurance will help with the rescreen? I'm assuming it was Irma damage? Funny thing is our cage had 2 knee braces come loose, 1 fell into the pool and the other is still hanging by 1 screw or rivet from the top 6 month's later:headslap:.....I just know one day this summer when we have a thunderstorm I'll be standing out there cussing the drainage problem and get taken out like the steeple scene in the Omen....

It did help with the roof due to damage to the decking. The screen and pool surface are just old. Couple we bought it from are in a condo on the beach. I completely understand. Lol.

I used to laugh at the thought of living in a condo but at 53 I'm warming up to the idea ....
What sort of deck are you considering? When you start please do a thread with pictures and details about the process.

I think we’re about a year out from the project, but I’ll do that.

My preference will be concrete, colored to mimic the sand of Bermuda. I think that would look good with the water of the pool. The house is currently a light brown with a gold tint in it. Very 80’s. When we paint, it will become a driftwood grey.

Here’s the current look:
