I thought a 100 mph fastball was rare? Doesn’t seem humanly possible to throw 150.

I used to be able throw in the ~140 mph range... but that was back when I could karate chop a diamond in half and throw footballs over mountains so I guess that 150 is doable.

Yeah I watched the game yesterday until we were down 8-4 then I just checked on it sporadically. Definitely had plenty opportunities to get more runs in but, come on, you aren't really supposed to win games when you allow 8 runs. These random mid-week losses are the price you pay for getting your young pitchers experience, but I do think that the payoff probably ends up being well worth it.

It's funny that our record against top 10 teams is far better than the random colleges from Florida. It's just a sign of how dominant our good pitchers really are.

Yes, and it's also a sign of how good baseball in general in the state of Florida is. Hell, Bethune-Cookman won a regional game last year. I remember Joe Arnold's teams always losing to UNF or Florida Southern. I didn't understand college baseball as much back then and couldn't believe it when we'd lose those games. Getting the young pitchers starts and meaningful innings in those games is important. O'Sullivan does a good job prepping these kids for the future.

Gators might profit from a little humbling at the hands of Jacksonville before heading to Kentucky. They stranded 13 baserunners, made a couple of baserunning blunders and didn't pitch very well. A loss now and then over a long season can cause a re-focus.

Upcoming Kentucky is the only SEC team with a Top-10 team batting average. Could be a fierce challenge.
Go Gators !

I was there and we had plenty of chances but never could get the timely hit. Much bigger fish to fry with KY and all the SEC games. B/C we play Thursday the only pitcher who did pitch that might see action action KY was Leftwich and he only threw about 3 innings. Heck even Horvath pitched and I don;t think he pitched all year. I know they wanted to win, but not even getting Mace, Baker, Butler warm told you that only the bottom of the barrel guys were going to pitch in relief against Jax.

Mercer won 6-4. We struck out 14 times and except for Baker and Mace the pitching was bad. We're 2-3 over the last 5 games and some batting averages are coming down while strikeouts are going up. Dalton has 50, Schwarz 44. Maybe some of the guys have fallen in love with hitting home runs and are getting away from just making solid contact and protecting the plate with 2 strikes. We played at such a high level for most of the year, there had to be some cooling off, especially from India. But the upcoming series with Auburn seems very important to me. They have 2 great starters in Casey Mize & Tanner Burns, plus Leftwich may be getting his first weekend start on Saturday. Will be interesting to see how the team responds.

Just a midweek game with spot starters for pitchers. Pretty much a throw away out of conference game to get some other pitchers some experience. Hopefully we bring it vs Auburn this weekend. Go Gators!!

Yeah I know that's the typical response when we lose a midweek game, even though the opponent is not using their weekend starters either and we have far superior talent across the board. But when we beat FSU 3 times, it's a big deal. Wil Dalton doesn't think they're throwaway games. “Nobody should come in here and just roll over us,” said Florida sophomore right fielder Wil Dalton, who launched his team-leading 16th homer of the season. “And two games in a row, it’s definitely a bitter a taste. This is two mid-weeks in a row we’ve lost that we shouldn’t so this is just something that we have to fix.”
The team is in a mini slump and batting averages have been dipping, with strikeouts on the rise. There's no questioning the facts. I hope you're right about getting up for Auburn. Just hoping we haven't peaked too soon.

Yeah we slumped last year around this time too. Repeating is very difficult. All it takes is cold bats in the Regionals and you are out so anything can happen. Go Gators!!
