Was the S&C program partly responsible for Will Grier's UF downfall?

Do you think the poor Florida S&C program contributed to Will Grier's demise?

When Grier took a banned substance and subsequently was suspended and left the team, all the blame was put on his shoulders. And ultimately, it's true he's the one responsible for whatever he puts in his body.

However:

Over the past year the stories of the disastrous Strength and Conditioning program continue to ooze out. Players weren't held accountable, no discipline, and it was so bad players were hiring trainers and working out on their own. The question is, would Grier have been at GNC buying supplements without talking to coaches if UF had a competent S&C program?

It's a fair question to ask at this point. Florida is on the verge of having TWO quarterbacks leave the program and go on to win the Heisman Trophy, a scenario which is beyond belief.

Before spouting off an emotional response because of your personal feelings about Grier, please think about it and attempt a reasoned response.

That’s a good theory, and I can see it definitely contributing to Grier’s blunder at GNC.

He wanted to get stronger, better.

Even though the timeline had Grier experimenting with the banned substance as early as July 2015, it's likely he wasn't getting much guidance or support from the staff.

Going back and revisiting the Mac experience is like remembering a failed marriage. You're not sure whether to laugh, cry or spit.

When 18-20 year olds are left with no supervision or guidance, the $hit will hit the fan.

If Grier had an S&C he could rely on, or was even present, he probably wouldn't have taken the juice.

Reason 1,345,432 Mac and crew suck.

Ditto to just about everything mentioned so far. Very reasonable to consider mac and the lack of competence & oversight contributed to wg’s blunder.

It actually has me wondering if chump needed just one more year...

hahahahahahahahahahhahahaaaahahahahhahaahhaaaahaahhaha!!!

Sorry, couldn’t keep a straight face...

Your question could be answered if someone has access to this https://insidethegators.com/s/195/a...ughts-ii---will-grier-and-the-florida-offense

Reading the comments, they are saying this was completely on the lack of S&C, Grier desperate to get better and Mac giving Grier no second chance despite him begging and not demanding assurances

Does the S&C play a role, of course.

Two of you have alluded to a Grier blow issue. Curious how much substantiation there is to it.

Newton did not "leave the program," he was thrown out. Newton went to where students were turning in their papers for a class with a title page prepared, stole a paper, substituted in his title page and then turned it in leaving someone who had done the work high and dry. Anyone who gets caught doing that has to be thrown out for a least a period of time, as Newton was.

I'm curious if he ever bought the kid who he stole the laptop from a new one.

Well yup, given every position has been getting dominated.

Personally I feel UF’s downfall started when they went to Pepsi... ;-)

Lots of alluding to it by some beat writers. Even before the suspension.
You'd have to be fairly specific to point to coke. Even inferences without supporting evidence would be highly unprofessional.

Did he have the sniffles? Powder on his beard? Twitchy and nervous acting? Tried to bum a cigarette off a writer?

Dunno. Strikes me as out there. Then again, out there seemed to follow Grier every step of the way.
