Can you please provided the source data as proof that Mullen's class as better than Spurriers... seems it would have been a little before most recruiting services rankings.
That’s true, the ranking services we currently have didn’t exist or were so new as to not resemble what they have become.
It’s also too early to judge Mullen’s first class by hindsight/actual production. They haven’t played a down.
That said, Spurrier’s first class was pretty spare. I’m just going from memory here, but as I recall only Terry Dean and maybe one other player became significant contributors. (Also, his 93 class was pretty pedestrian besides Fred Weary.) The classes between and after those two were stellar. It wouldn’t take much for Mullen’s first class to outshine the 1990 class.
Ha! Google is great. Found this - without changing what I wrote above, I’m pretty close to exactly right on how they panned out. Depends on how you rate Harrison Houston and Aubrey Hill. I didn’t recall the ratings of the players being that high - or who rated them. GatorBait’s hot 100?

But it’s a different world in so many ways. 28 years. Feels like yesterday. Dang I’m getting old!
