@'78 Your remembrance of this game made me think of an old high school buddy who drove his Chevette to Tampa for that game with "Bernie is a Homo" painted on the back window!

As for a top game, '91 F$U will always be among my favorites. One of the hardest hitting games I've ever attended. F$U's last play happened right in front of me. Pass was tipped and Will White, I believe, leveled Matt Frier as he was reaching for the ball. The Noles wanted an interference call and many used that excuse for the L. Even better was my Nole brother-in-law and his wife were with me and the missus and he had to listen to me all the way back to Tallahassee!
Holy crap, I actually remember that car along with two other unforgettables:

KOSAR IS A QUEER
AIDS IS A CANE IN THE ASS

That was about as rowdy of a pregame as I can remember, although decidedly one-sided in favor of UF fans. It killed me to go up on them late only to have Kosar engineer the game-winning drive on the next possession. Crazy finish.

We didn't lose another game in 1984. That was one helluva Florida team.

For me it’s a tie between 86 Auburn and 91 FSU, with honorable mentions for 95 Tennessee and 08 LSU.

Seems like the entire stadium gasped in 86 when Kerwin broke free on that 2pt conversion. I thought the stadium might actually collapse during the ensuing celebration.

The intesity level of the 91 FSU game was off the charts start to finish. I don’t think I’ve every experienced anything like it since. I’ll never forget that 4th down pass getting batted down in the end zone. Will White I think.

I would consider selling children to experience 1980s Cocktail atmosphere.
Though we always had fun at the Old Gator Bowl, the 80's were not kind to the boys in orange and blue. I think we went 2-8 in that decade...wins in 84 and 86??? Emmitt was 0-3...Wayne Peace 0-4...Wibur 0-4. I graduated in 88, and when you ask us older Gators who our biggest rival is...we always say Gawja. I hate the freaking puppies. That is why that 84 game was so awesome....broke a long streak....stopped a goal line stand just when it looked like we would choke again...and then Kerwin to Ricky....oh my (sorry for the Mick quote, though David Steele was the play by play guy then). The Gator Bowl, like the Orange Bowl, had a run down charm to it.

I don't go to many games and mostly against Vandy. A tie between Tebow winning the SEC championship and his last game in the Sugar Bowl. I was also there when Tim got hurt against Ky.

1969 Houston at Florida Field. John Reaves, Carlos Alvarez, Tommy (TD) Durance, Mike Rich. 80 yard pass Reaves to Alvarez. Of course I was a sophomore and expected #1 Houston to wax our "legs" after the debacle that was "The Year of the Gator" in '68.
Yep, I remember that 68 team was gonna be good..........then the super sophs lit up the world,. Then Johnny R threw 178 INTs against Auburn and we fell back to earth

Good thread topic, I'll rank my top 3 and why:

1. 1996 SECC game - A year after getting our teeth kicked in during the national title game, the chance to play again was on the line, against a hated rival, after Texas showed balls of steel against Nebraska on a 4th down on their own 28 late in the game, with a lead, against Nebraska in the Big 12 game...I was in The Varsity in Atlanta near GT watching that game, that place erupted when Texas pulled that off....you knew we were going to win. Arguably Danny's best game as a Gator.

2. 2008 SECC game - No Percy meant doubt. Seeing Tebow in the 4th quarter cemented him as one of the top five all-time players in the college game.

3. 1990 Auburn at BHG - Spurrier's first season. We had been trashed earlier in the season at UT 45-3 on national television. The Barn were 3 time defending SEC champs, 6-0-1 and #4 coming in, Pat Dye was arrogant and flippant about Spurrier's offense, game was tied at 7-7 during the first quarter, then a 100% pure ass kicking ensued., we win 48-7. At that point, you knew the 'nice guy' Gators of the Pell/Hall years that won a few were done. We were going to be the ones kicking ass from now on. The Terrence Barber punt return was a thing of beauty, although he gassed out, the place when ape ****.....

This is as great thread. Thanks for all the memories. Sorry, I can't pick just one game. That 97 f$u game in the swamp comes to mind. The 97 Sugar Bowl--although I wasn't at the game--was the best. That celebration party on University Ave was priceless.

All of these have been great, but I've got one out of left field. I suppose that it more the personal context of it than it's place in Gator's history. Back in '02 my brother was in the UF band. I had been away from home for a few years at this point and this was going to be the first time I got to see him perform as a Gator. It was UF vs. UK. The whole family was there for the first time in a few years, including my wife who was great with child number one.

The first half was a snooze fest with the good guys building a lead that you felt was going to lead to a feel good blow out of the kitties - but it didn't turn out that way. The Pillsbury Throwboy caught fire in the 3rd and actually took the lead. I can't remember the exact sequence of events, but right at the end of the 3rd Sexy Rexy hit Jacobs and got the lead back but our defense didn't seem to be able to stop a wet cough at that point.

You could feel the anxiety. In the 4th they had crossed over onto our side of the field and suddenly Kiewan picked off Throwboy's pass and took it to the house. The crowd started rattling the keys and I remember thinking - too soon *******s. Sure enough. The offense was in full Zook-ball mode in the fourth and had done diddly poo. Throwboy got a touchdown with plenty of time on the clock that pulled them within 5. UK lined up to go for two. You could have made diamonds in the puckered butts of the faithful. Back then you didn't have empty seats in the student section and the place was juiced. Kiewan jumped the route and scored on a two point conversion.

The Zooker managed to burn some time off the clock but it still came down to UK's last possession. The atmosphere on that drive was how The Swamp used to get when you didn't so much hear the noise as felt it rattling around your insides. When the drive failed the roof would have come off it was a dome. It was just Kentucky - but being back there with my family in a game that snuck up on us was something I'll treasure for the rest of my life.

I lived in Alabama from mid 1993 to first of 1996

My favorite FB games are:

1995 Auburn, revenge for 1993 game I attended
1993 SECCG Terry Dean to Jack Jackson on the fly
1994 SECCG The Emory & Henry run to perfection, Danny faking a shoulder injury, Danny to Chris on the slant for the go ahead, interception to seal the deal. UA fans muttering about losing a NC chance at that game
1994 UT 31-0 beat down, rain and lightning was epic right before the game. Sang Rocky Top walking out.

Favorite BB game, Bily D winning in Rupp the first time. Jason .Williams was dropping dimes and Kenyan Martin went for like 30 points.

I'd have to go back and do the math, but I think the gators are around 18 or 19-2 in games I've attended. The only swamp blemish was the 2010 game against LSU. I've never left a sporting event so angry or frustrated. That of course was the last minute lateral fake Les pulled on us. The road loss was the 13' game against the gamecocks.

I knew you were on a first name basis with Satan.

Not only was the ticket free, but it came with free booze and food. There is a whole incredible, red carpet lined underworld below that stadium.

To be honest, the seat is terrible to watch the game. Row 1 is ground level. Which means you have the entire bench standing in front if you. We ended up getting the dude that manages the cables for the TV crew completely hammered because we fed him a beer every time he passed, which was every couple of minutes.

Still have some of the graffiti that was released.

The 2nd part of that story is I couldn’t get off work the following day. We stumbled into the hotel at 3, I had to get up at 4 to make my 5am flight back to Jax. I have never been so green on a airplane ride. I had the puke bag in my lap, but never got sick. I’m sure I still smelled of booze and Oklahoma tears when I crawled into work at 7:30 on all 4s.

Did you fly down from Jax the morning of the game? If so, we could have been on the same flight.
