I'll bet Ox had no idea how profound the impact was to be when he added the like and (esp) dislike options.

A like is many things. It's acknowledging of a good post and a poster you personally like, someone you TEND to agree with. Sometimes, too, it's a means of encouragement, esp when that person just got a dislike. It can even be a political tool, a way to coalesce support. It's a very powerful and yet subtle tool.

A dislike for the most part is a cold-blooded dagger, a big dis put on display. Almost like showboating. It feels personal, it feels dirty. If you're the one giving it out, it lets the recipient know you mean business. Don't eff with me or there are more coming behind it.

I give out a lot of likes and very few dislikes. Law hands out a ton of dislikes, like he's trying to scold someone or simply say he disagrees or just be a jerk. I usually just shrug or laugh when he gives me a dislike. With him it's become a badge of honor.

This is obviously a vitally important offseason topic and I really need your input. What motivates you to hand out likes and dislikes?

And if you give this post a dislike, I'm going after you with a full set of poison daggers.

First rule of dislikes: anyone who bytches about dislikes, get a dislike.

Second rule: dwags and clowns and anyone who likes them gets a dislike, always

And anyone who seems thin skinned, gets dislikes. That is a public service. I'm trying to toughen some up.

Sometimes people I just want to poke, like you @'78, get dislikes, but I remove those generally later.

Otherwise, I generally like even responses I don't agree with if it is a well defended position. I know that confuses some.

I think I get it. It's like Trump. Knock the guy between the eyes, which softens his ass up, and then negotiate. You'll always come out on top.

I don’t think I’ve ever given out a dislike on here, that I can remember. I know I have been given dislikes, but it’s all good. This board is very entertaining to me, the dislikes that posters give out just adds to it.

I'm an on top kinda guy.

Seriously, who are these people who cry about dislikes, looking at you @Slevin , and why?

Does it lower your bonus? How does it affect you? Why are people so whiny about it.

I have only 1000 dislikes and there is zero doubt in my mind I have offended and waaaay more people than that.

I almost never do it. People can tell how I feel about what they wrote by my response. It takes more work than hitting a button but it is much more satisfying - at least for me.

I just checked. I've gotten 8 dislikes. I hadn't paid any attention and I don't know who gave them to me. I do know it's thrown me into a deep depression. I think to offset the pain we should get two oxbucks for every dislike.

Dislikes make me laugh. I got some new guy that makes a point of giving me serial dislikes. Makes me smile big.
I like likes. I mean I like to give likes. Getting them is fine. But those dislikes are funny. I imagine my 2nd grade teacher frowning at me
when I was bad. Or even one of my former secretaries at work. I loved that woman. She would cock that eye at you thinking to herself "are you outa your fockckking mind?????"
One more thing. There should be a double or super like. Rogd had a post in the chat that deserved MORE than just a like. this is what he posted. NOW that is worth much more than just a "like"
True story = Checked in to hotsy-totsy hotel. Suffering jet lag, so had to sleep into the afternoon. . Their "Do Not Disturb" sign was blank on the back, so with a marker I wrote my own. While I slept the maids passed my hanging sign "Already Disturbed" -- thought that 'd keep them away. +1

You really want me to bore you with a brain chemistry answer? With likes the reward center is lighting up like a Christmas tree. Maybe you are doing everyone a favor, Donk. You're like the methodone to the heroin of "likes."

I had no idea anyone gave this much thought to likes vs dislikes. They are the easy button to express an opinion. We clearly have no shortage of opinions here at GC.

BTW, I laugh when I see someone get wound up over a dislike. Some of it is sarcasm, but some here seem to take it seriously. If that’s the case... lighten up, Francis!

Wut? You think SEC14Gator didn't regard it as important after he collected 42 likes for the SOS convo thread? For all we know, he could have made the whole thing up.

(Wouldn't we all look like fools.)

That’s great! I didn’t make it up but it’s a good idea. Oh, and thanks for all the likes fellas. I think my first ever post got more, but I haven’t double checked. It was about Mac not actively coaching in games with accompanying videos.

The day after meeting SOS I played golf with Jamie Speronis, SOS’s longtime operations guy. He wouldn’t give up many stories but he did share that he was at the Hambrick broken glass to the head dinner, Spurrier’s never taken him as his guest to Augusta (he’s only ever brought his sons as his 1 allowed guest), and when Terry Dean came up, Speronis sighed, “Uuuuh, TERRRY Dean” with full exasperation.
