Nebraska assistant explains why Scott Frost said no to Florida

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/f...sistant-explains-scott-frost-said-no-florida/

After Chip Kelly, UCF coach Scott Frost was the Florida Gators’ top target in their coaching search this offseason.

However, Frost said no to the Gators and instead accepted the job at Nebraska, his alma mater.

On Tuesday, Nebraska TE coach Sean Beckton explained why Frost turned down the Gators, saying Florida wouldn’t let him bring his entire coaching staff with him:

Sean Beckton says Florida asked Scott Frost to be head coach. But Florida would not allow him to bring all his staff, so Frost said no. #Huskers

Frost brought most of his staff with him to Nebraska, and that was apparently enough to convince him to make the move from UCF.

The Gators settled on Dan Mullen instead, and it appears both schools are happy with their decisions.

As much as many of us wanted Scott Frost, you can bet the usual suspects would have been apoplectic if he was allowed to bring his entire staff of nobodies here

This is just the hurdle that makes Frost look good... look at his loyalty to his people. If Nebraska wasn't offering, he would probably be a Gator right now without his staff.

If Frost were coach he would have forced Ja'Juan Seider out. What a disaster that would have been. Good thing we ended up with Mullen.

My problem with this story isn’t that we would have necessarily gotten Frost if we allowed him to bring his whole staff. My issue is we didn’t put ourselves in the best position to acquire a potentially great coach. That type of self-inflicted reduction of our chances is very Foley-esque.

That's if you believe this story... sounds more like a fluff piece about Frost than actual fact.

I heard a Frost interview last week and that guy is going to do great things. Everyone has a price but after hearing him talk about Nebraska and how he goes Turkey hunting with Tom Osborne...he probably was not coming here. He loves Nebraska and he's all about bringing the brand back. He's their SOS. It was a great interview. He's going to be a really great coach when all is said and done. Winners win and that's what he is.

The problem with this story isn’t whether it’s true or not, the problem is that it’s believable based on Foley & Co.’s track record and stupid decisions over the past 10 years. That’s the real problem!

I personally think his tenure in Nebraska will not end well. Time will tell.

Frost is yesterday's news. He may or may not become a great coach, but one way or the other, it won't be at UF. I've had to let that go of that particular bit of frustration, because lingering on that crap serves no useful purpose. And after all, we did find a HC who actually wanted the job. However, make no mistake, I have as much distain for Foley and his short-sighted, wrong-headed, penny pinching BS as anyone. His departure is one of the clearest instances of addition via subtraction I can remember in a long time. It's now time to heal some wounds and look to the future for this old Gator.

This. Frost was my choice and I did expect to land him....until I heard about Nebraska. I knew he was going to choose them. I always said Kelly was never coming here but started to believe he might when all the talk started. Now I am glad he didn't. While I think he is a better coach overall, I just don't believe he would ever put in the effort we are seeing from Mullen...who was not even on my radar. Now its all water under the bridge. We have Mullen and I hope and pray he can do what he was hired to do. Go Gators!

I think we will do the best job anyone could at Nebraska, which is 9-3 routinely.

No 5* will go there.

I wish him the best, but Nebraska is in Hospice.
This will be his downfall right here. He needs speed to run his offense and he's not gonna come to fl or and other state in the south and convince a kid to choose Nebraska over UF, Bama, UGA, ect. It would be different if he went to say Auburn but it's Nebraska.

Always a possibility but what he did at UCF was pretty damn amazing.
Agreed. Just think it's an impossible place to recruit to anymore. The glory days of that school are over forever.

Foley will continue to lurk, no doubt. But at least he's no longer the official HMFIC, and that's reason to rejoice in and of itself. Honestly, I too will be relieved when I'm no longer seeing him on the sidelines at every f'ing televised Gator FB or BB game. If he had a speck of humility or grace, he would step to the side and let others be "the face of the administration." Of course, if he had either of those attributes, he wouldn't be Foley, and we wouldn't be having this conversation. Thanks for reminding me of why I truly dislike the doosh nozzle so f'ing much.
