We bought a used VW Bug for our oldest daughter. It took a cute car to convince her to learn stick. Then taught the middle one, too. One to go...

Maybe not as useful as it once was, but you never know when it will come in handy.

The irony of hipsterdom, they want old cars, because new cars are murder, but they can't drive sticks.

That's all my millennial ever wanted to drive growing up was a manual. Probably because that's all his old man drove while he was growing up.

PDK is faster but a six-speed is a whole lot more fun.

My 2011 987 Spyder, the first of the new gen of Spyders. Very fun car. 3.4L flat six, 6-speed, Porsche Sport Exhaust. It sounded and drove badass. Terrific handling car.

The bikini top was a trick to take down and put back up until you got the hang of it. People would stop me at the gas pump. "What kind of car is that? I've never seen a top like that before."

I made out like a bandit when I traded it in 2013. Every dealer wanted that car because it was limited production and it looked good in all black.

Spy photo of a 2019 718 Spyder, which is expected to have a detuned version of the 4.0L GT3 flat six, meaning horsepower in the 420-430 range and 360ish torque.

We're talking a car in the 2,900-pound range. That's screaming fast.

I think this car is terrific looking.

I"m willing to bet the majority in this thread grew up learning stick, and likely prefer it to this day. For myself, I had a hell of a time adjusting to automatic initially, mostly for reasons of my own stupidity.

I will say my wife learned on automatic, and in one night I taught her to drive stick and she was zipping all over town quite well. Shortly thereafter, she swore never to use one again (no reason other than seeking simplicity).

I would like to teach my kids on stick, but have none available since I must own automatics for the wife (and PA hills in the winter in general). I'm considering renting a stick for a few weekends when my oldest is of age so she can know both....but I wonder, how useful is it to know stick anymore?
It's ALWAYS good to know how... I've taught all mine.

The very first car I drove wasn't a car. It was a semi-tractor trailer cab with around 18 gears. I was 16 and working at a Ford dealer, my first job. The owner said move it. And so I did.

I'm pretty sure it was impossible to ruin that tranny.

Has anyone heard or tried out the Ecoboost Mustangs? The 2018 models have a 4-cylinder and listed with 300 hp. Just wondering if someone has a personal account with one of them.

Lucky for me I still have these 2 Pony's in the pasture.

2018 Premium GT Performance Pack, Magnaride suspension, active exhaust and 10 speed Auto tranny. She'll be getting a 3.0 800HP Whipple supercharger soon.
And then I still have the 700HP 2009 Shelby GT 500 which to me represents the car that started the modern horsepower wars....

Leaning to getting a GT with 460 hp... but saw it was listed from 300-320 HP for a 4 banger, with 21/32 mpg....
