Franks' new motivation (EA NCAA Football video game)

So, I was browsing ESPN and noticed this article regarding a group of individuals that still update rosters for the old EA NCAA Football video game.

For those of you that don't know what I mean, EA stopped making the game a few years ago because of the lawsuit from players that didn't want their likeness being used without being able to receive a monetary benefit. But, even when the game was active, there were people that would update rosters so that if you had the previous years' version, you could still have the correct athletes for the current year in real life. So, now that the game is several years old without a new version, apparently there are people that still create updated rosters.

Anyways, I'm reading the article and happens to take a turn that makes it more interesting for us Gator fans. Here's an excerpt of the part most directly related to the Gators and Franks:

Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks was amazed when his brother showed him how to download the updated rosters. When he played as himself, however, he had a sinking feeling. His rating was in the low 60s.

"I was garbage," he said, laughing. "They had me rated so low I didn't want to play."

The redshirt sophomore is determined to improve upon that rating in future updates.

"I need to get them numbers up," he said.

By late August, Franks will know where he stands. Thanks to Bullard and the rest of the editing team, every player and fan of NCAA Football can keep the game alive for another season.
Thought some here might be interested. I also imagine this thread will get completely derailed in some interesting (or completely infuriating) ways.

The messed up part is that video game Franks probably should be pretty good, considering the way they do those things. Big, strong, fast, rocket arm. There’s really no rating system that accounts for running out of bounds for a sack instead of just throwing the ball away

What’s even wilder, while playing, he got benched and Trask took over FTW, reality really slapped him in the face

Arm: 99
Awareness: 30
I consider the release part of the arm. Franks winds up like a right fielder regardless whether it's a fly pattern or a simple screen toss. I'm surprised no one has worked with him on it. It really hurts his game.

Ea's ncaa is my all-time favorite video game. I got it every year. Too bad they couldn't make them anymore. Low 60s is about as low as it gets on these games for any player at his natural position. The ratings get into the 40s if you try to put a Punter at QB for example. I wonder what Trask and Emory Jones are listed at in this version. If these editors pay attention to recruiting, I can't imagine EJ being listed much lower than mid to low 60s also. But he's a true freshman. If you play well with him in the gameplay then he could end up being in the 90s by his junior year. That's if you're playing Dynasty mode with the Gators.

It’s called awareness and it’s in the game...see sas’s reference

Mullinz isn't going to fix this. He isn't that kind of coach.

60 and 62
This is pretty sad when UF's QBs are rated this low.
Where did you find this info, Donk?
The top players in this game get up to the upper 90's obviously. I'm just curious to see the ratings of other QBs this year by these gamers. Fromm and Tua are both sophomores. I'm guessing they're in the 80's somewhere.

Here is a video that actually has a bunch of their rankings for the Gators for this upcoming season.

To many of our surprise - Franks is actually an 80 this coming season. The low 60's number mentioned in the article was for last season. Emory is a 79 (pretty solid for a true freshman) and Allen is a 72 (video from before he announced transfer presumably). One thing that may get a few panties in wads is that Trask is completely missing! How can this be? Clearly he would have been our sole 91+ if they had not chosen to ignore him.

As the voice on the video says, one thing that quickly stands out is that we have nobody they consider to be a stud. Ivey is our only in the 90s, and he barely makes it. We have a ton in the 87 range, which would be solid contributors. But, it shows a clear lack of elite players on the team according to their view.

Also interesting is their view on our running backs. Davis is not ranked as the top (who knows how they use the injury to adjust his rating, but he is a 79) and Perine and Scarlett are tied at 87 overall.

Also, word of warning, the person narrating the video could be classified as a pumper, so dumper's be ready!

Without further ado:

OK, and to go one step further, apparently they released yesterday a full simulation (where they let the computer control both teams and just watch it play out) of our season using the video game and these updated rosters. Our record will be......drumroll please......9 and 3. Here are the details.

Some highlights:
  • W Charleston Southern - No highlights from the opener shown, but we win.
  • W Kentucky 38-30 - Kentucky comes back late to make it close, but we hang on
  • W Colorado State 44-27 - Trail at half (21-10). We come back to win.
  • W Tennessee 41-38 - was a ten point lead until Tennessee scores meaningless TD as time expires
  • L Miss State 24-27 - we lead at half 21-13 but can't hang on and miss FG late to take it to OT
  • L LSU 21-31 - Franks with a couple costly picks
  • W Vandy 52-21 - easy victory. 52 points in an SEC game, wouldn't that be nice?
  • W Georgia 30-28 - big pick 6 for Marco Wilson and Hail Mary TD for Cleveland leading in to half
  • W Mizzou 47-20 - offense putting up some points
  • W S. Car 45-10 - wouldn't expect this to be so easy
  • W Idaho - Again, no highlights shown, but we win.
  • L FSU 26-20 - we are ranked 17 and they are 3 going in to the game. We lead in 4th, but lose in OT.
I doubt anybody would be too disappointed with that result. If Georgia loses one additional in this scenario, we represent the East I would imagine.

Also of note in video is that Franks is apparently going to turn in to a red zone beast. He runs for a substantial number of TDs in the highlights, the narrator even mentions it a few times as looking like the Tebow offense under Mullen.

Here is the video:
