Just tried this a couple of nights ago and it is fantastic. Balvenie is one of my favorites and i do enjoy rum so i figured it might be good but it was really really good

Try Angel’s Envy Rye. Research it and make sure you get one from 2017. I have not tried the new batches, but rumor is they are Bacardi casks now. Not that it’ll be bad but I just can’t vouch for it until I try the new casks

I was in Durham, NC last week for work and found a nice local bourbon. It was called Seventeen Twelve. Really nice bourbon that was smooth going down. Only like $32 for a fifth.

Go to Nashville, find some Peg Leg Porker, avoid @BNAG8R otherwise you’ll be saying hi to Jabber the other side.

When it comes to liquor, I generally like drinking them over rocks or straight. My favorite bourbon so far is Angel's Envy. I like the port flavor right at the end. I also enjoy a good rum, and the best rum I've had is Ron Zacapa, specifically Zacapa Centenario XO. Some of the smoothest, easy drinking rum I've ever had.

Not an AE Bourbon fan at all, but I know some people love it, so I'll have to give it a shot again sometime.Their rye is something else though.

Agree. It's a great rye. Had it for the first time last October and immediately got a bottle.

I'm also a fan of Whistle Pig's 10 year. Not sure if you've had it but it's worth a go if you're into ryes.

Haven't tired any of the Whistle Pig stuff. I hear the sourced stuff is better than what they've been producing, but that's just hearsay at this point. I think the WP stuff is closer to 100% rye, and outside of Masterson's I've tended to go toward the high-corn ryes like Pikesville and Russell's. But I'll give it a shot when I get a chance.

I am the proud new owner of Michter’s 10. Both the bourbon and the rye

Pretty sure I’ve never had either, but Michter’s is always raved about. Any reviews?
Not opened yet, saving for a special occasion. I know Michter’s 10 bourbon is commonly used in blind tastings to teach people how overrated Pappy is. They’re kind of pricey, but have only heard positives about both.

Blanton's is my go-to bourbon; but my off the beaten path pick is Rebecca Creek from Texas.

Very fond of vodkas and rums too. For the price, Appleton's is a great rum (I'd put it up there with ones a lot more expensive). Also appreciate Pusser's and Mount Gay.

Singani (a Bolivian spirit made from grapes) is also delicious. The taste is similar to gin, but with far less bite. Everyone who's ever tried it loves it.

Good bump. Forgot about this thread.

On the Pappy note, have you tried Weller's Special Reserve? Supposedly a younger version of Pappy under the BT/Sazerac umbrella. It's tough to find and so I bought one when I saw it recently. But then I also see it selling for like 4x what I paid on ebay and other sites, so I'm not sure if I want to open it or sell it.

Anyone have reviews?

I've only had one Pappy and it wasn't really a Pappy, it was the Van Winkle 12. It was very good, but like $50 good. I've heard other people say the Pappy 15 is the sweet spot and others say it's the 20 y/o. I'll assume the difference is how much oak you like on your bourbon.

The Weller line is the same recipe as the Van Winkle line, but that get's you less than half the way there. The individual barrels have a huge influence, as well as, the warehouse location. What floor is it on? Is it on the Southside getting more sun? I will say two things about the Weller line, 1) it's a good whiskey and worth picking up if you see it 2) it's getting almost as much hype as the Van Winkle stuff.

If you can get a good price selling your Weller, go for it. There are other wheated bourbons better than Weller, that you can probably get for less than what you can sell the Weller for. Rebel Yell 10 can usually be had for $50-60 and it is far and away a better bourbon. Larceny is mid $20 and very comparable to the Weller line and very available.

Personally, i prefer the rye recipes more. I've had all three of the lower Weller's and they are good solid boubons, no doubt. But the hype is just way too much on them.

What are your favorite bourbons, and I can probably make some suggestions for you?

Thanks. I'm leaning towards selling it. If nothing else, I have enough already and don't need a 1.75 taking up space if I'm not in love with it.

Like you, I've become more of a rye drinker. As I mentioned in other posts, Whistle Pig is probably my favorite overall. I also really like the Sazerac Rye and that's more of my go-to. For bourbon, I drink Basil Hayden the most, but have a collection of maybe 10 others.
