I think that was the right timeframe.
My best friend and I made the road trip from Tallahassee to Jax (without tickets of course) with a Publix shopping bag about a third full of weed.
We couldn’t afford to scalp tickets due to the outrageous cost, so we parked outside the stadium and got high(er) listening.
But - I think it was the Jackson Five, not just MJ.
Am I misremembering this somehow?

Jackson Five opened

Last Night:

Meric (?) and the Smashing Pumpkins (St Pete Times Forum):

Lets start with saying some positives that put both the Mrs and myself in a good mood. Parking was cheaper than the last time at the venue, beers were cheaper than the last time, and we got upgraded due to poor sales to 9 rows from the floor.

Meric was "ok". The lead singers voice was as Mrs Douglas described if Gwen Stefani and Shirley Manson (lead singer of Garbage) had a voice baby that would be her voice. Their music would go from hard rock to very pop. Wasn't bad just not my style.

Smashing Pumpkins: Now this is the second time we have seen them in 3 years (saw them in with Marylin Manson [sp?]). That show was just a rock show. They didn't do any changing, or a whole lot of dancing or videos at the Amp (outdoor in Sept and a set list of about 16-20 songs. Last night, lights, video, outfit changes, and a 33 song set list. They sounded good outside of a few low points (cover of Stairway to Heaven). Got hear one of my favorites by them "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" which I didn't get to hear last time. Overall a good night with not too much of a crowd.

While at the venue believe the wife has started the 2019 list:

FINALLY got to go out to Red Rocks amphitheater this past Saturday night.
Earls of Leicester, Infamous Stringdusters and the Yonder Mountain String Band.
Very "smokey" during the show... good thing it was outdoors.

I think I saw Chicago at Fla Field in the 70s. Billy Joel in the old Alligator Alley around 77 or so. I was in the PE library and walked down and saw him for free.

Bush and STP was a blast last night. I had my doubts with no Weiland , but their lead singer was pretty great.

Awesome Gatorbait, that is whom I'm seeing tonight. They are doing a three header tour, who closed for you?

The Cult opens (missed the first five minutes), Bush in between with STP at the end.

Gavin closed with Comedown, opens with Machinehead. Went through the crowd about halfway through the set
after Glycerine. He even does a Beatles cover ( Won't spoil it for you with the title).

STP opens Wicked Garden, closed with Sex type thing. I give them the slightest of edges over Bush last night.
And i'm a big GR fan.

Ok, so that means Bush will close for me tonight according to what I've read. Were the dirty hooks there too?

Just remembered, either in 1955 or 1956 I attended Gator Growl and Fats Domino held a concert at one of the fraternities. It had to be either PKA or KA....anyone out there old as dirt like me that may remember that.

Last Night:

Start off the show didn't sell as well as I thought it would. I have never parked so close to the actual Amp as I did last night. The wife and I basically had a row to ourselves, and they were selling seat upgrades in $10 increments depending on how close you wanted to go.

Dirty Hooks: They had a 30 minute set that wasn't bad. Their sound is as Mrs Douglas aptly described as if Lynayrd Skynyrd and the Black Crowes had a baby. I wouldn't go out of my way to see them again, but if they were playing in a small venue and I was near by I would see them again.

STP: Roughly an hour long set, highlighting most of the hits. The new lead singer was solid, but not Scott Weiland. Most of the songs were good enough, but there were two songs where they should scrap for live shows just because the new singer doesn't have Weiland range. Dead & Bloated being the biggest offender. But other than that, it was a good show. If they were coming through with another act, I would go see them again.

The Cult: Hour long set. I saw the Cult open for Guns n Roses in 2016 in Orlando in July. The lead singer still appears to have the ability to hit the notes. But he was btchy as fck. Complaining about the heat, the microphone, and how he can fit into 30 waist jeans due to the effort and sweat (weird). I'm not a Cult fan, and their music sounds roughly the same to me. Mrs Douglas took the time to get another beer and look at the merch. The only song I definitely knew the singer started yelling off stage and didn't sing half of it. If given free tickets I'm not seeing them again (unless they are opening for someone I really like).

Bush: Closed and gave an hour set. After starting with Machine Head, Gavin talked about the pressure of closing and the pressure of being the turkey spot. They mixed up their set list from the previous show (wife had the list on her phone). But all but the Chemicals Between us was played (got switched out for something I didn't know). The hits sounded great with the energy. They also did the best cover of "Come Together" I've heard live. During Little Things Gavin ran from the stage to the grass seats. They closed with Come Down. Would pay to see Bush again.

Overall a good night, a bit of rain came in during the Cult show which cooled it down. Fun night was hand by all.

Tomorrow Night: Imagine Dragons.

Sounds pretty much exactly like the Tuesday night show. My favorite parts of the night were probably the guitar solo on Trippin on a hole, Gavins cover and comedown . The cult singer whined a bit about the heat at our show too. But in the end made up for it by tossing his tambourine to the little kid sitting in front of us. Image1533829052.363666.jpg

That's great for that kid... I didn't see if the Cult singer did it for our crowd. If the tour was to come back through I would see it again.
