I looked at the wyze cams, but I decided against them after reading reviews about them recording when turned off and sending data to servers in China.

Well, any cloud-based solution has servers somewhere. Several coworkers have also brought up this same fear with the Nest, Ring, and (especially) Amazon camera servers and so they’ve invested in their own recording server. For whatever reason, I really dont care.

With the wyze, you can actually completely disable the wifi on this thing and do a rolling record onto a SD card or USB stick.

I have my cameras on smart plugs that I tell Alexa to turn off when I come into the house. This turns off the cameras and the backup I pay for with Nest.
