I would not risk scaring JJ away, hopefully Franks continues to develop. He has improved far more than I thought capable already.

You might start getting a situation where every blue chip recruited QB bolts after a few games if they are beat out by someone that has the same or more eligibility remaining.

@DanWolken: Dabo said he told Bryant he could have stayed on the roster under agreement not to play him the rest of this year.

Maybe some of these kids should ask themselves if they really want to go to Clemson, Bama, and Ugay's of world. They sign all these 5 stars in the same positions and then get beat out by a Freshman later. Well no shyt. Where is Eason now, who knows where Hurts will end up and now Bryant.

Until there’s an injury and he’s forced to play and ruin his chance at one last year. He’s a senior who isn’t getting drafted, high at least. It makes perfect sense for him to leave

Eason is sitting out the year at Washington.

The reason these kids go to the Bama's and UGA's is those schools have outstanding recruiters who convince the kids they can beat the guy in front of him...or to not be afraid of competition...or learning behind an All-American will make them better....and the kids want to win championships. It's the same reason Meyer was able to sign all the kids he signed.

I'm on the fence on this one. But I'm leaning towards not wanting either of these transfers. If we aren't close to competing for the playoff, what's the point?

This. It's all great until it affects us, which it at some point will. I'm fine with the grad-transfer rule, as I think it should motivate these kids to think more about their studies and reward those who have. This is just coddling players who were beaten out, and also not holding them accountable for recruiting choices. As much as you may want to play for Clemson/Alabama/etc, you have to figure that the primary reason they're attractive destinations is that they've won(have great players already) and have a lot to offer to recruits(that won't stop after you sign). If you're not up for that challenge, pick a different school. Or accept that you may be locking yourself in, either riding the bench, or doing the year-off transfer journey.

As I said, considering most of these kids will never have any meaningful NFL career, we're just setting them up for failure when real life comes their way.

At some point you gotta figure it out though. Meyer NEVER recruited like Saban.

Kid thought about leaving the team in the summer because he knew the competition... You knew that he was going to bail as soon as it was obvious he wasn't the man.
All that said he would turn this team into a 10 plus game winner with his skill set and Mullins offense to go along with the stellar WR's, and RB's we have now.....I'd take him in a heartbeat over Hurts or anything we've got on this roster now or in the next 2 seasons.

Gotta figure what out? Meyer signed two #1 classes at UF didn't he?

Meyer was generally outstanding in recruiting, outside of his neglect for OL and a very lopsided 2010 class. But I don't think I've ever seen anyone stack a roster quite like Saban. Teams always seemed to be able to play the "playing time" card against us, just as we have when another team is loaded at a position. Ironically, you just updated CJ Worton's thread, and he's a prime example. I don't see that with Alabama.

They had a 4* kid fly to Paris to announce, and then somehow talked him into gray-shirting. Really wrap your head around that.

Why do I have a feeling with this new rule, schools like Bama, Clemson, Georgia, OSU are all going to be seeing this on a regular basis? I honestly think this rule is going to fracture teams more than help them. You cant continue to have leaders and players that the team looked up to lead to championships leave and it be good for the program. You then go on to have Dabo insult him saying hes acting like its middle school.

I think it's quite logical that the more highly rated recruits you have on the roster, the more likely it is that some may transfer.

Well, of course "no one recruits like Saban" (but Kirby Smart just said, 'hold my beer'). Saban completely changed recruiting w/ his 60 person staff size (among other things). But Meyer pulled in a few "Saban" type classes. That was my point. But overall, from year 1 thru year 6, no - he didn't recruit like Saban.

Well, the Parks kid - a 4-star top 100 recruit - gray-shirted. Unbelievable.

This added ratrace could show "star kids" how insignificant "school loyalty" is. College football is a bit captivating due to the unblemished love of school these "kids" develop = it is what ties them to us and ties us to them.??

Yep Bama, OSU and Georgia have been at another level recruiting in the last few years.

I would take him over what we have, but I was just referring to him leaving.
