Along the lines that Marine1 has stated : such childhood deficiances can also generate an internal hatred.

The research on outcomes for young children who grow up in such dysfunction is clear and irrefutable. Such children experience far greater likelihood’s of teen pregnancy, school dropout, substance abuse, criminal activity and incarceration. Many issues arise from what’s known as attachment disorder. Because they were not bonded as children they fail to bond with others as adults. They have deep-seated issues. They often don’t view trust, loyalty and commitment as we do. They have not lived it. I don’t know enough about this kid to really know what he went through. Some kids are able to overcome these obstacles....some are not.

The bottom line though is just as clear. Our society demands that we are held accountable for our actions. That can’t be compromised. It would not be helping him to do so anyway. But just as clear is this kid needs help and guidance. Even as he continues to fail.

Great thoughts. Too bad that of the few who understand what you are saying, even fewer help provide that help and guidance to people like him. Mostly because they alienate and try to manipulate everyone around them and people get tired of it and move on. And so does the cycle. The harvest is plentiful.

Very true but this looks very much legit. Let the process play out for sure. Will possibly enter into some kind of diversion program if guilty which if not accompanied by some serious therapy will just delay the inevitable.

Therapy is useless unless he wants it and embraces it. I hope for his sake he takes it seriously.

Nailed it.

A great organization that seriously tries to help these kids is the Guardian Ad Litum program in each judicial circuit. They desperately need volunteers throughout the state. My daughter volunteered in Alachua County while she was attending UF. Opened her eyes wide seeing the difference in her upbringing and those she represented to the court. It’s easy to call these kids a POS based on their behavior but very difficult to break through the hardened shell and the wall they’ve erected. Abuse, neglect and abandonment is not easily forgotten.

There are plenty of kids that buck that trend however especially ones that were given the opportunities he was given due to his football talent. I bet half of my high school team was raised by grandparents that didn't have money to give the kids much. Like you say he needs to own up to his arrogant attitude and his behavior.

He definitely needs to be held accountable for his actions....whether he owns up to it or not.

But I would counter his issues may not simply be that he eventually was raised by a grandmother and one who did not have much financial resources. I’ve known plenty of kids in that situation who turned out just fine. They may not have had parents or money but they were raised with both love and accountability.

I don’t know much beyond the superficial about Lemons. I do understand he was removed from the care of his mother st 6 years old. That requires judicial action as does the termination of parental rights if it rose to that level. These are not trivial issues. I also don’t know much about his foster care experience. I do know that some experience real trauma in light of being separated from family, siblings and friends. Imagine if physical abuse was involved at 5 or 6 years old that was so severe you were removed. Every change of placement which can be frequent can mean a new school and another group of kids who think you are different. It’s a very difficult existence which often leads these kids to trust nothing and nobody. They carry everything they own from home to home in a hefty bag.

Like I said I don’t know what this kid has been through but it’s clear he has issues including substance abuse. Hold him accountable and hope somebody can reach him in a way that alters the direction of his life. Easier said than done as he appears to burn all bridges behind him.

He has a real talent. I hope he can get it together and actually use it.

Butters fought the Administration hard to get Lemons into UF.

Here's the list of McElwain recruiting "wins"(even if only temporary):

Lemons—kicked out of HS, likely headed to the pen, no one wanted him
Callaway—too long to list
McGriff—can't read or write, no one wanted him
Manuel—fake commit, and he can't read or write
Robinson—weed issue first week here, and during visits, no one wanted him
Corral—known as a drug user/dealer, forced to go to school on probation

Yeah, but where is this stuff written and reported that "everybody" knows?

It was rumor, and possibly embellished to some degree. But it kept an Elite 11 kid from getting an offer from anyone on the west coast, which is insane. The fact that his choice came down to a team that didn’t want him and a team on probation, says it all. Never seen a pariah of that level before.

Not saying I don't believe it I just wonder where these guys get this info. And it definitely would explain a lot.
