Not to nitpick because that is a heads up play if so but what is the penalty for that?

5 yards and repeat the down? 10 yards? Loss of down?

Again not blaming him but just for sake of discussion because obviously 1st and 15 is better than 2nd and 14 but Toney probably makes that decision hoping to get back to the line of scrimmage and while under duress
Its a five yard penalty. so technically you could argue that 1st and 15 is better than 2nd and 14. But in reality, imagine tossing the ball to Scarlett on a sweep and he notices that the defense is blowing up the play and its gonna be a sure loss of yards. Would you expect him to just instantly play QB and throw an illegal forward pass to avoid the loss? Of course not. Toney's wildcat play was a run, not a pass or RPO. Just my opinion but expecting him to throw the ball away there is a big stretch.

The first neighbor my wife and I had when we were first married was a Cajun from Louisiana and he proudly referred to himself as a Coon @ss. I always thought it was a term of endearment :dunno: I'll tell you one thing about those guys, they know how to drink beer, eat good food, and have a good time!

Thank you cover 2 for taking the time for the write up. It is nice to know we have a chance in every game.

I've partied with LSU fans. They're a fun and hardy lot. They can dish it out and they can take it back.

@SaltGator what did you dislike about Cover's analysis?

Want to give some credit V. Joseph and J. Hammond. Joseph had 14 tackles (3.5 TFL) and 2 sacks. Hammond had 3 catches for 85 yrds.

M. Stephens pops up again with a TD catch and Stiner closes out another 4th down for the game.

I fat fingered the like button, I meant to give it a like. Thanks for pinging me, I fixed it.

No I agree although I wouldn't compare Scarlett to Toney in that scenario given how they use Toney on RPOs.

It’s bizarre, lacks respect and demonstrates zero loyalty to our guys. Whats worse is none of these guys would call him that to his face. Not that they are the least bit afraid of him but because they would not act juvenile in public. Message boards bring out the worst in some.

Call a man by his name. My father taught me to stand up when I shook a mans hand. I can’t imagine what he would have done if I disrespected one by ridiculing his name. Whatever...to each his own.

I agree....but I will still call McElwain, "Butters".

Cover, this comes to you after a long day in the SUV headed home from Hogtown. And I enjoyed every mile of the nine hour drive. You really nailed it, as usual. I have to say that I am so glad I penciled this game a year ago to return. All I can say is the Swamp has not been that electric in a long time. My ears were ringing for hours.

I just have to give Mullen props. There are things that he does that will make you say WTH, but which coach have we ever had that didn't make you do that at times. It seems as if he knows every little thing that's going on. Even if it means jumping up in down to get the fans jacked up. And it worked.

Just a few points as I am dead tired and the adrenaline is wearing off.

D, was lights out.
Someone got in Chauncey's ear in the off season and told him to man up. Great performance.
My POTG, the entire OL. Few mistakes here and there but when a UF OL of late did not give up a sack, damn good job.

I see this team getting closer, playing harder, and loving their coach. That should bode very well for us.

Fantastic write up. As the team and coaches gave us their best effort to date, I think you did the same, so bravo to all. I don’t think you missed a thing. For a minute their I thought you were going to miss the significance of the swamp crowd that gave us a big advantage in that game, but you hit on that as well.

I posted last night how, borrowing from Saban, that it has been a long time since we had to worry about rat poison, but now with the guys playing almost great and getting some great wins, it’s inevitable that they are hearing about their greatness from everyone. Bad timing when the next game is against a perceived lesser foe before the match up with the big dogs who are currently king of the hill. And on top of that, an early start conference road game checks all the boxes for a potential trap game. This might require one of the better coaching efforts of the year.

Speaking of the coaches, no doubt they are earning our trust and serving up hungryman portions of crow to some of us.

Go Gators!

C2, always look forward to this. Awesome. Mullen and Co are earning their paychecks. I do have one question...and I wasn't paying attention until Danielson made a couple references to it. The WRs were NOT getting separation. It looked like Franks couldn't find an open receiver and it was him. But looking at several plays...it was the WRs not Franks. He was throwing balls that were high or in an area that only the WR could get if anyone. I was disappointed in the wr corp. People blame Franks but it's not always him. Thoughts?

Great stuff C2, as always. Great win for the good guys, and I truly want to get on the Cousin Eddie bandwagon, but he just does things in game that truly make me scratch my head knowing that not even a Pop Warner coach would make those calls. Don;t get me wrong, Cousin Eddie called some beautiful plays yesterday. Yes I am saying it, he called some great plays. Scarlet made some of the best 3, 5 and 7 yard runs in a long time. It is not his or coaches fault that our line is still below average. To most the win is all that matters, but when you are in a tough game, why would you want to put your guys in a potentially bad spot, b/c those types of games come down to less than 5 plays. Like when Ogre chose to kick their first FG on 4th and inches. I am so glad he did not go for it, and that could have been a MO changer. Just like the 2nd offensive play of the 3rd Qu swung the MO to LSU for about 20 game minutes, simply b/c of the call, not necessarily the result (INT). They throw essentially a 50-50 ball to open the 3rd Qu. Great throw, great catch, but not an overly risky throw and even if the CB makes a great play so be it. But the next play call was atrocious. B/C you have to begin with the framework that Franks is a mental midget. Not bagging on Franks as many mental midgets have been good college QB's, but in that case you CAN'T put a guy like that in that type of decision making process, when the game does not dictate that. If you watched every other pass play call and where the ball was meant to go, they were all fairly safe, easy throws and reads. Perfect for Franks. But this particular play was meant to throw down the middle where you were in a part of the field where the middle could not be cleared out. There were other options on the play, but there was not even a check down and Franks makes up his mid before he leaves the huddle. The game was not on the line and there will be times you are going tho have to ask Franks to read and make a decision. But that was NOT the time nor the place. I know Cousin Eddie did not throw the ball, I know Cousin Eddie was not playing O-line there, but you have to know your player's weaknesses and limits. That INT was purely on the play call. Just like calling a QB power run on 3rd and 1. Terrible call, whether you make the 1st down or not. Franks is a willing runner on a scramble (yes he makes the 1st if he had dove forward on 2nd down, but again he is unaware of anything) . LSU took away the WR screens, so why not run the secondary off and send an RB out of the backfiled and isolate on a LB? Not once all day? Again I want to get on the Cousin Eddie bandwagon, but I always thought he was below average at game management and IMO he continues to make mistakes that are not necessary.

Yes I know we all wanted Stewart to fall down or run out of bounds or get tackled. but I can't blame the kid. Not many guys smart enough to fall down and end the game, but unfortunately that kept LSU alive. And I have no problem with the defense being in prevent on the last drive and giving up a long 4th down conversion. The problem I saw was too many guys flat footed and did not have their head on a swivel seeing if anyone was coming into their area. Again mostly positives from yesterday, but their are still times that certain calls are made at the most inopportune times, regardless of the play result.
You could start, with calling our coach by his name. I mean, what he has done so far demands a little respect, of which you give none by calling him that.

Perine shouldered the load. But, Scarlett making guys miss behind the line or in the hole was great to see.

Another good game plan by the coaching staff. They aren’t simply making halftime adjustments...they are adjusting to opponents’ adjustments. ( Both offensively and defensively).

Overall D effort relentless. (Didn’t see Slaton in at all.)

Well, the guy does own a "shi tter's full" sweater so I don't think he is particularly offended by the reference.

I really think it's important to put things into perspective. That was an outstanding secondary for LSU. Fast, talented, well coached. Probably the best we'll see this year. I'm not faulting our receivers. It's their sixth game in this offense. The LSU secondary will all see play at the next level. Delpit and Greedy Williams are freaks.

"Lighten up Francis"

He looks like "Cousin Eddie" from the "Vacation" movies and he has been known as Cousin Eddie since his stint on the staff years ago. So he will always be Cousin Eddie to me. It is not meant to be offensive so I am sorry it offends you. So I guess that you will call out all of us who use "Butters" or "Hee Haw" or "Old Yeller" or "Muscrat" or "Mustank" or "U. Creyer" or "U. Leyer" when referring to some of the former coaches. But please feel free to block my posts from your viewing pleasure if Cousin Eddie offends you.
