Player Failed The Worst By The Previous Staffs

We've clearly seen development this year on the part of the team...except Fred Johnson and C'yontai Lewis (they can prove me wrong, we are only half way there). Partially inspired by Mullen discussing Moral Stephens in the press conference today. So I've got a question, what offensive player do you think was ruined by the lack of development and/or offensive philosophy the most? I'm going to ignore players who transferred elsewhere and lit it up (like Brissett and even Driskel:eek3:) and ignore players who were already established like Demps/Rainey. Also, no players Mullen has this year as they can e somewhat salvaged like Stephens.

My nominees currently are:
Matt Jones- Flashed plenty of potential, especially in the '12 FSU game at the end. However, I can't say he ever got any better. He was good, but imagine him in a competent scheme with actual development.

Kelvin Taylor- This guy possibly could have lived up to the 5 star hype under any other coaching staff.

Demarcus Robinson- Guy had a good career, but again, could have been great with any sort of scheme. Plus, was there a position group more cursed as far as their position coach over the past decade? What did we have, 7, 8 WR coaches after Billy G. and before Billy G.'s return?

Ahmad Fulwood- ok, I wanted one more and didn't want to go to Debose because he had some Meyer highlights...in the beginning of the dark times. Anyways, Fulwood came in a 4 star guy, had the size and at times we saw flashes. If he had a consistent coach and scheme, maybe he wouldn't have been what we could call a bust.

Honorable Mention- Quinton Dunbar. Seriously, this dude was talented enough to change not only position, but side of the ball in the NFL and have a career. We couldn't do anything with him at UF...come on, man!

Who was the person most let down by the horrid former staffs? One of these? Someone else? Lets discuss.

I'm gonna go with the most obvious, Feleipe Franks. I thought he was beyond repair. I've never seen one player improve more in one season, ever. I

I forgot that parameter I meant to add, no one who is currently able to be saved like Franks and Stephens. But that is a good one.

It’s a tie between Jacoby Brissett and Will Grier.

I think it's not fair to not include current seniors, as they only have one season to "get fixed". Stephens came in as a low rated WR who probably should have never been signed by a UF type of team. He's done an admirable job, although I'm not sure how much he's improved blocking.

I think the QB and OL development over the last 7+ years (4 Muschamp, 3 Butters years) has been as bad as any team in the country. There's been quite a few OL's who should go find Butters and/or Muschamp and open-hand b*tch slap them for failing them as a coach.

Well Mullen appears to be working wonders on Franks.

I'd have to go with Driskel. Could you imagine if he had any type of DM tutoring??

I’ve watched Brissett a few times in the NFL and while he’s not a top tier QB, the guy can ball.
I would have loved to have seen him develop as a QB here.

While we’re in that same timeframe, wonder what Mullen could have done with Driskel?

This has been going on since Urban Meyer. Certainly a candidate is David Nelson. Players are really not suppose to have 3 times the number of catches in the NFL as in college. UF has a decade plus of offensive players being bit players at UF and making NFL rosters. And as we all know it is not like UF had great offenses.

I think Stephens has been the biggest surprise and may even get a small look at the next level where he probably would not even have a chance at a practice roster before. I'm not saying he gets drafted (though he could end up with 8 TD's), just he could do what many Gators offensive players have done recently and get picked up from a training camp.

Yep. That's all I will say about him.

Yep, but I will say this about Nelson. He was easily no greater than like the 7th option during his time. Harvin, Caldwell, Cooper, Murphy, CI, Hernandez, Rainey, James, and Demps (I think I'm missing people), all were ahead of him and there's not a reason why he should have taken any touches away from any of them. I think the fact he had so little touches and has done well is an indication of great development.

John Brantley? He should have never been an option QB and then he got paired with Chump and Cheeseburger. Yikes. He probably would have had a great time in the Big 12.

The degree of ruin that McElblame blanketed these Gators with is a sin. It's all a crying shame. That guy should be made to suffer for suffocating all those dreams.

I can’t help but think Brantley would have been really good under the right coach in a pro style offense.

And far away from Florida. Style of offense wasn't his problem. It was his decision making and the people defending him to no end. I'd rather pretend he never existed. It takes a true moron to catch a batted ball for a 10 yard loss while lying flat on your back.
