Why isn't Damien Pierce getting more carries?

I've watched him every play ! He hasn't fumbled . He hasn't missed a block . He is the most electric back Ive seen in a long time at Florida . I hope we don't screw this up and he transfers and wins a Heisman like Cam and probably Grier .

Dude, Tua is winning the Heisman, not Grier. Calm down. Pierce will be a beast for us soon enough.

I don't post to have my 5th grade English teacher slap my hand for not using paragraphs ! By the way proud non deplorable

Good question. I hope it is just because it was a one point game until the late interception. I love the way Pierce runs. He may have had a ding or something?

I know your new, but this thread should have been started in the main sports section....Ox will move it eventually.

I love Pierce too, but he's a freshman behind two upperclassmen. Mullen has openly stated that Pierce is struggling in pass protection. I'm sure we'll see more of him soon and I very much doubt he transfers, relax.

He'll have some more moments this season, but it's all prelude as long as Perine and Scarlett stay healthy. And they may be thinking about a red shirt if he's no longer on ST.

Next year? Watch out.

I would like to think Pierce will be the secret weapon that catches the 'crack sniffers and ball lickers' by surprise and assists us in upsetting the 'leg humpers'... my fantasy anyway, lol. But as others have said, more likely the frosh doesn't have enough nuances to the game pat for DM to give him the keys to the car yet. It's sure nice to have another viable weapon in the holster though. Go Gators!

We're all good. I'm sure he understands. Not like he hasn't played. We're winning.

I'm gonna guess because he's a freshman and 3rd on the depth chart.

He'll get plenty of carries next season, along with Davis and Perine.

With our OL and QB under development, RB and TE blocking is an absolute must right now.

Check the Pick 'Em leader board overall standings. He's too busy researching point spreads to learn the playbook.

IMO, Let Pierce start the game = by that we have a better chance at being ahead. Sustained drives will give us more control over the game from the outset. Perrine & Scarlett are decent, but they average less than Pierce and only Pierce offers breakaway TD potential. It's like having Nick Chubb stuck on the bench.??

Pierce is one injury away from being the #2 back. There's nothing wrong with Mullen easing him into the new system, particularly because he's got two veterans in front of him and he can't pass pro yet.

As BMF said, he’s playing about as much as any true freshman could expect in this league. He will have more chance to shine next season.

As for the transfer concern, he’s typically the first guy down on kickoff returns, which is not indicative of someone sulking or even remotely upset. I also believe it was him that was directing the O&B chant from the sidelines Saturday. And he’s usually been right up front for Mullen’s locker room speeches. So I’d say he’s having a blast right now.

And as much as I’ve not been a huge fan of his, games like Saturday are the reason Scarlett is the feature. He was an absolute beast, in terms of running hard, picking up blitzes and holding onto the ball against a great defense. So it’s not as if Pierce is sitting behind a scrub or fellow underclassman.

Has Pierce burned the 4 game RS rule?

If he wasn't out there on ST then no I don't think he has burned his redshirt.

It makes sense to do it. Play the long game since the older players are delivering. The backfield of Franks, Scarlett, Perine graduates and gives way eventually to the new backfield of Pierce, Wright and one of the Jones boys.

he's getting plenty of carries for a true FR on an already solid roster. Coach has to show our next RBs that they will have to wait their turn. I'm okay with it.

25 carries in 6 games is too conservative. Thankfully I really like Scarlett and Perine and we are winning.

The difference is between 2 really solid, tough backs.....and a true game changing, once a generation type back. Pierce can take it to the house. I’m tired of talking about it. Coach has a wait your turn....get back in line conservative philosophy on this. I’m good with it because probably sooner rather than later it will be a moot point. Pierce will eventually get 15-20 carries and never look back.

It’s going to be exciting.
