Why isn't Damien Pierce getting more carries?

he's getting plenty of carries for a true FR on an already solid roster. Coach has to show our next RBs that they will have to wait their turn. I'm okay with it.
I'm not okay with this at all. No player should "wait their turn" if they are the best at their position. I'm not a fan of upperclassmen getting starting jobs if it's not deserved. I'm not saying Pierce should be the starter but if he's the best back then that's who should start. There is a reason kids are choosing Bama, UGA Clemson, OSU they will start freshman.

I've watched him every play ! He hasn't fumbled . He hasn't missed a block . He is the most electric back Ive seen in a long time at Florida . I hope we don't screw this up and he transfers and wins a Heisman like Cam and probably Grier .
In time. Scarlett will dance too much and then Pierce will be needed. He is going to be a superstar!!!

And as much as I’ve not been a huge fan of his, games like Saturday are the reason Scarlett is the feature. He was an absolute beast, in terms of running hard, picking up blitzes and holding onto the ball against a great defense. So it’s not as if Pierce is sitting behind a scrub or fellow underclassman.
I was looking for him too but in this case, I've got to defer to the coaching staff. Scarlett played very tough, maybe his best game. Perine continued to run great. The youngin is going anywhere.

I don't post to have my 5th grade English teacher slap my hand for not using paragraphs ! By the way proud non deplorable
I like this guy a lot. He's got panache. As for Pierce I called down to Dan a few times Saturday about Damian but he ignored me as always. Secret weapon for the dwags and then bama in Atlanta.

Pierce is a beast already ! Play him ! Grier will put up more numbers than Tua because bama games are over after the first quarter
Perhaps Grier will put up more numbers, but if that was the only criteria, then Grossman would be our 4th Heisman winner.

Tua is putting up lights out numbers on the best team in the best conference. And, the Heisman voters love them some Bama. No chance Grier wins as long as Tua stays healthy.

And, you do realize that just because my sig discusses paragraphs, it isn’t pointed directly at you, right?

No, he didn't realize that.

I'm not sure if you noticed, but WVU is an undefeated, Top-10 team and has a good chance to stay that way - because of Grier. It's not like Grier is putting up huge garbage-time numbers on a 6 win team.

Grier is better than Tua, and it's not close. Put those Bama players around Grier and he might throw for 10,000 yards in one season. Take Tua out of Bama and play Hurts all year, and they are still easily undefeated.

Grier just threw 3 INTs and lost a fumble to the mighty Kansas Jayhawks. Tua has 18 TDs to 0 INTs. And, Tua's on the best team in the best conference. Assuming Bama continues this dominance, I just don't see how Grier will have the opportunity to win. If Bama and Tua stumble, then I would agree that Grier is the next choice as he is having a great season.

What if WVU gets to the playoff?

Speaking of Tua, I read this yesterday. :eek3:

Compare Tua’s first 6 games to the *best* games by Heisman winners

Has Pierce burned the 4 game RS rule?

If he wasn't out there on ST then no I don't think he has burned his redshirt.

It makes sense to do it. Play the long game since the older players are delivering. The backfield of Franks, Scarlett, Perine graduates and gives way eventually to the new backfield of Pierce, Wright and one of the Jones boys.

Pierce has long since busted his redshirt 4 game limit and is averaging over 10 ypc, more than twice anyone else. He also ran for a 68 yard T.D. Vs Colorado St. and a 47 yd. T.D. Vs Tinercee the next week.

4 carries for 30 yds. Vs. MSU.....then crickets....

The coaching staff obviously does not trust him in close games, probably because of pass protection. I like to watch him carry the rock myself, but it's not like the guys ahead of him are stinking up the joint.

I would like to see Perine start and Pierce follow....Scarlett ran some nice runs but Perine seems like a more consistent runner and Pierce a home run hitter.

I mostly agree, but this is Scarlett's money year and he seems to be keeping his nose clean and to the grindstone.

I greatly preferred Perine to Scarlett because of his tackle-breaking abilities, but Scarlett really showed me something against LSU, grinding out tough yardage and keeping his legs moving. I think it was the best game he's ever had.

Ding, ding, ding,
We have a winner

The LSU game was no more than a TD and two point conversion from being tied.

RB knowledge and blocking was a premium.

Go back and watch the end of the Miss St game. On one snap DP turns and runs towards FF and strikes his right arm causing the ball to come loose. Fortunately we keep the ball. It was obvious DP didn’t know the play.

Coach DM is installing new plays every week or running ones for the first time. With a close game every player needs to know their assignment. Maybe DP doesn’t?

How about we trust our coach who has shown he “gets it”?

Having said that. I think DP might be the best pure runner we have on the team.

Gotta agree with Ox here. Scarlett was running angry in this game, really pushing the pile.

I agree. We can’t complain too much when the backs ahead of him are playing well and we are winning.

I just wonder out loud if we are in closer games because we don’t give him the bell. Every game I see some 10-12-15 yard runs that I think he takes to the house. He has that vision thing that truly great backs have along with speed and power.

We’re going to get 2 fantastic years out of this kid. I just wish it was 3. But as long as we’re winning he’ll just have to stay in line.
