I have to say I really thought JS would have been more dominating running the ball this year; however, He seems to be slower to the holes and not getting it done. What say you?

In the types of games we’ve played of late, and will play for much of the final stretch, he’s nearly perfect for us. In addition to running hard and hanging onto the ball in tough yard situations, his pass protection has been outstanding. We need Franks calm and collected, playing from a lead or small deficit. Not constantly running for his life or getting blindsided by a blitzing LB and getting rattled. From that standpoint, I think JS has been very valuable for us.

Not always glamorous, but really effective for what we really need right now.

Pass blocking, making people miss in the hole, running hard for extra yards, and not fumbling. All behind a mediocre offense line years behind on coaching as well as strength and conditioning. Jeez, what else do you want?

Agreed. Scarlett hasn't quite picked up where he's left off in terms of running the ball; but he's doing everything else right and it's made a big difference for our offense.

He'll get stronger as the season goes on because he has a couple of superb RBs in Perine and Pierce backing him up (and Davis comes back later on as well).

Welcome back. Post more often.

I’m not surprised by his lack of production but like Sofla said, he’s a good blocker and Franks needs that. I think we could do better going with him late in the game when the DL is getting tired.

He’s solid. I think the one thing he can improve on is to quit dancing at the line so much. He needs to use his strength more. Tries to bounce out too often.

But I’ve always liked him and think he is playing well.

Agree with all of the above. Scarlett is a beast. Just hasn’t been fully unleashed yet. What he lacks in long runs, he makes up,for, with leadership and blocking. The best is yet to come from him.

Scarlett has never been a wow you type of back. He has never been quick to the holes nor is his style ripping off long runs. He is a grinder and a steady "get me tough yards" type of runner. Sure he has missed some openings b/c of his vision, but the lines he has played behind his entire career at UF do not allow for a lot of easy holes to pop long runs. But for this year only, Scarlett has been excellent. He has had to make tacklers miss in the backfield who come unblocked, just to try and get 2 yards for a 1st down. I think he is having a very good year given what he is asked to do.

I think he's fine. I know I don't want to tackle him.

Wasn’t Scarlett horrific in pass protection last year? I seem to remember that being the main reason he didn’t get more time on the field.

His progress in that area alone has made him valuable. I’ve also felt like he continues to be a strong YAC guy who protects the ball.

No. He was suspended last year.

I do remember complaints about blocking but it seems to have been addressed. Now its Pierces turn to address it....

Definitely seems like he hesitates before hitting into the line; Perine doesn’t do that. Like most though I like the whole package he brings.
