I think Pierce’s blocking struggles are way overstated. I haven’t seen many missed assignments from him.

I was previously not a phan of JS. After watching the replay, I think Scarlett stood out. He ran very hard in some critical situations.

On the internet, if he runs the ball to the hole the coach tells him to, instead of just bouncing outside every play, he sucks.

Scarlett always seems like he’s close to breaking a long run, but never does. He’s become a great blocker and has been clutch at getting that one yard when we need it. Others on here have said they’d like to see him get the bulk of his carries in the 2nd half, I agree with that. Like to see Perine featured more early in the game and Pierce get some early action as well. Glad we got all three though.

He obviously has had some trouble in practice. I think he shines next year.

I look forward to seeing him in more of a full time mode too and think he will blow up. Until then the older guys are gettin’ ‘er done with what they have in front of them.

I feel like it having a year off from playing/practicing has hurt his instincts some. He definitely isn't hitting the hole as quick and has missed some, but he also seems to be getting better every game.

The one area he has been stellar in has been pass protection. Huge improvement from previous years and honestly I think that is why he is in the game a lot.

Wasn’t Scarlett horrific in pass protection last year? I seem to remember that being the main reason he didn’t get more time on the field.

His progress in that area alone has made him valuable. I’ve also felt like he continues to be a strong YAC guy who protects the ball.

Well, not LAST year. He didn't play LAST year. I can't remember back to 2016 if he was or wasn't. He's solid now, appears to have improved his ability to pass block. He does seem to be a bit more decisive in hitting the holes, but once he gets to the second level, he is a beast to take down.

He did have that excellent long (30 yds or was it just + 30 yds) TD run against the Rams.

Scarlett, Perine & Pierce all have their strengths. Scarlett and Perine ran very hard against LSU and Scarlett is an excellent pass blocker. Not so good catching passes. I agree that Pierce may eventually become the better of the 3, but the success of a RB depends so much on the O-line and while there has been improvement, our O-line is not a great one. Better at run blocking than pass blocking. Overall, our run game is much better than it was last year and will continue to get better under this new coaching staff.

I wonder how Malik is coming along? I suspect he's doing well or we would be hard after two RBs this cycle.

At the LSU game, he had one of those knee scooters going on. Granted Lenton allegedly made tackles against Colorado state with the knee scooter so Davis will be running the ball by Georgia

I agree Butters is a douche, but the poor pass blocking by Scarlett is not a myth. He may not have been "horrible", but he was bad. There were threads w/ specific clips of him whiffing, getting blown up, or simply not knowing where to go and the defender came in untouched. It was bad. But, the good news is he's greatly improved in that area.

I agree he should be the #1, w/ Perine a close 2nd. I think they both have a solid skill set, but seems neither has the "big play" capability like Davis and Pierce seem to have. Piece seems like a perfect 2nd half RB to come in and pound on a tired defense....if we get a solid lead. In a tight game, like the last two weeks, it makes perfect sense to go w/ the two primary backs.

I wonder if DC's see Pierce in and know we aren't likely to pass?

How is Perine's pass blocking?
