Folks, by the grace of God and sweet baby Jesus mine and my parents houses were spared. I had no housing or roof damage and no flooding and im waiting for a check on the parents but initial report is theirs is fine too. My fence is long gone, nowhere to be found, and the roof on my workshop is gone but thats it. Nothing to the house. The beach side was largely spared; we were just west of the western eyewall. Panama City townside, is a different story. The whole town is absolutely demolished. Total devastation - were talking Andrew and Katrina (minus flooding) level catastrophe. Nothing was spared. Will take at least a week for road crews to clear the roads - they are really bad.

I had a buddy who almost died - his dogs did. He barely made it through. Townside of PC got the western edge of the eyewall and had sustained CAT 5 winds. The weather services were under reporting at the end. All the local wind readings in PC to mexico beach were above 160 until they just quit working once the eye was fully on shore.

Thanking the Lord that my family got out and are safe. Praying for literally thousands of people that stayed and hundreds more that are still unnaccounted for and not responding. I have freinds and family of freinds who havent been heard from since the eyewall came ashore. Cell service is actually decent and has been throughout the storm, so many are fearing the worst for these folks. If any of you are religious types, I ask you to take a moment right now and say a prayer for these people.

God Bless.

Do happy to hear your friend made it. I know you were really concerned. Glad your family and your house is OK. I just feel for everyone and ain't just the people along the coast. This is going to be insanely bad.

Been hearing from my stepmom, apparently the school she teaches at and 4-5 others are practically destroyed. Holding out hope that their home in PCB that's about 8 blocks from the beach is ok, but realizing it's probably not. Had a pit in my stomach all day because of it.

which school is it? i know bay haven was a storm shelter but they had to have emergency responders come and evac the sheltered people from it because it was getting destroyed! and some of the private schools got wrecked pretty bad. my son's presschool sustained significant damage.

Heard on the news that the evacuation traffic was really lite and the authorities were worried that many people decided to ride it out. Lots of prayers.

Sobering day here in Florida and the southeast as a whole....a lot of people are going through some serious sh@t. My wife and I were looking at some of the damage from Mexico beach and were speechless. God be with those folks up there. I’ll bring back what they did for us during Irma....#floridastrong

The biggest problem with this storm is it intensified so quickly at the last moment. Hurricanes never do that. I'm sure people heard category 2 and figured they'd be fine riding it out. By the time this morning rolled around and it was a 4, it was too late.

It ended up being darn near a cat 5 but a couple mph at that point doesn’t really matter

You were incredibly fortunate. It's terrible people die in these things because they refuse to leave the area.
Hoping no one stayed.

I know better though.

There will be a lot of bodies found in that carnage. Maybe some washed away and never found.

Really glad to hear about you & your parents homes. Destruction can be such a fickle thing in a storm.

Almost exactly 23 years ago Opal did the exact same thing back in 1995. Went to bed with a 100 mph Cat 2 & moving at around 7 mph. Woke up to a 140 mph Cat 4 moving at 15 mph right at us. Picked up to 150 mph before noon. Literally cut the preparation time in half.

They can grow exponentially in the right environment.

Survived in tally. High winds and lots of debris. Gonna take us a few days to clean the yard. Luckily no damage, but some neighbors got wrecked. No power so that sucks.
