The "fighter jet" was just a museum prop for one of the civilian walkthrough areas.

Anyone know how I-10 is from 75 to Jax? Headed down tomorrow from Atlanta and wondering if I should take I-16 to 95 instead.

As a Hugo survivor, I know the healing will take a long time and the area will for the short term be bad. But a better future is ahead. Rebuilding together as a community means a stronger community in the end.

for all.

You know, if this was a week after the storm and supplies were low and help had been delayed, I'd almost understand. This is the very next day. It's unadulterated theft just for the heck of it, nothing more.

When you put a store in da hood, you have to deal with those kind of things. The “community” always clamors for businesses to operate in their neighborhoods and then the “community” rips the businesses off at every chance they get. Savannah is the worst I’ve ever dealt with in that regard.

My hear goes out to all those affected by this storm.
Looks like we dodged a bullet in Steinhatchee , the storm surge wasn't as bad as they predicted , a little water damage but no structure damage to speak of, the dock ,pool, Condo are all in good shape, thank God.

We have a lot of empty space at other military bases. We shouldn't rebuild Tyndall. Sell the property and move those units. It isn't 1940. Planes don't need to be close to the cost to do effective antisub duty.

The 21st century proved to be momentous for Tyndall AFB. The base was selected as the first home of the Air Force's newest aircraft, the F-22 Raptor. 2002 brought more change as the Chief of Staff of the Air Force changed the organizational structure of the 325th Fighter Wing, from an objective type wing to a combat organization. This organization moved all maintenance activities under the 325th Maintenance Group and all support activities under the 325th Mission Support Group.

Today, Tyndall is the home of the 325th Fighter Wing, providing training for all F-22A Raptor pilots. In 2012, with the gaining of a combat-coded F-22 squadron, Tyndall AFB returned to Air Combat Command, after a 19-year tenure in AETC, Air Education and Training Command.

On October 10, 2018 Hurricane Michael made landfall as a high end Category 4 hurricane, at Mexico Beach just to the east of the base. A weather station near the base recorded a wind gust of 130 miles per hour (210 km/h) before it failed. Air Force officials described the damage imparted to the base by the hurricane as "catastrophic", with many of the base's facilities suffering severe damage or complete destruction.

Panama City draws many to its military bases, but a range of other employment opportunities keep the city thriving.

Major Employers:

Tyndall Air Force Base, 5,191

Naval Support Activity-Panama City, 3,816

Bay District Schools, 3,370

Bay Medical Center, 2,174

Wal-Mart, 1,240
