36-17. To quote Ralphie..."Oh Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-dge (only he didn't say "Fudge")! I didn't say "Fudge" either, but used the alternative quite often this afternoon. The things we needed to control in order to win, the LOS, their run game, their QB and pass game, we were inconsistent at best and poor at critical junctures. Turnovers didn't help matters, though we somewhat overcame them I thought. Still, Franks' two would be indicative of his inconsistent if not erratic play. Missing a wide open Jefferson was an indicator, perhaps, of how his day would go. Take away a TD throw to Swain and the bad outweighed the good. We had opportunities to seize momentum and possibly alter the outcome, but failed to do so. Scoring easily on the first possession of the second half and then allowing them to match on their first possession was one of those moments. What a difference a stop might have made. Georgia isn't as good as they were last year, but they're still pretty decent. We won't beat them or similar teams with the play we brought today. East is now out of the question, but corrections and a more consistent and efficient effort next game is to be expected. The rebuild continues.

*Franks was behind the receivers on several throws that were part of his inconsistency. On his pick, how in hell could he not see the DB squatting in front of the receiver, in his line of sight no less? For as good as a lot of his play has been this year, he can find ways to step backwards, often when the pressure is high. Makes me think that Jones' package may be a little more than just that going forward?

*I mentioned that we didn't control the LOS well enough to better contain their run game when it counted or to put more pressure on Fromm, but we had some good moments. The goal line stand (may as well have been two of them) that held the Dawgs to a FG and the three and outs in the first half were notable, but we couldn't sustain any momentum that might have come from them. We wound up giving up more than a hundred to Swift (his first time ever eclipsing that mark) and Holyfield punished us on most of his runs getting a lot of YAC. That said, UGA was not dynamic in this area, but again, good when it counted. Both OLs were ok in pass pro.

*Zuniga played a helluva game. The stuff he ran down and stopped from the backside was pretty special. Joseph and Moon had some good reps as well. Secondary, however, got abused for much of the game and I think Reese blew a couple of coverage assignments.

*Losing Henderson early on was pretty big. Young McWilliams was obviously identified by their O staff and got toasted. Our safety, Stiner I think, on their last TD toss was slow to recognize the route and gave up about five yards of separation on the break.

*Did we ever cover the TE today? Allowing Nauta to make four receptions in a row on their drive before the half was inexcusable.

*Special Teams was not a big factor though we seemed to give up some return yards greater than usual. First time I think I've ever seen a ball hit the camera cable!

Again, the rebuild continues. The process so far is working and it is clear we are better, but today pointed out that we aren't yet elite. Stinks losing to the Dawgs and especially with the number of inconsistent moments and also giving them a cheap one at the end, but only time, hard work, and recruiting will be the cure. I'm bummed, but still very optimistic about our direction. Most thought this would be one to drop at the first of the season even though our hopes and expectations have been elevated. On to the next game. Go Gators!

:chomp:

***Adding a few more thoughts (was in a rush to go to the Mexican joint to drown my sorrows and break bread)...

*I mentioned momentum several times and it was disappointing that we didn't seem to take advantage of moments that should have led to us gaining the juice. Maybe we were a little overconfident; maybe we were playing a better team that was an invested rival? Whichever, it was obvious that they weren't Vandy.

*McPherson's FG was great and he is certainly a good young kicker, but this was a game that we needed a TD. I guess the thinking was that we were close enough that points however they came were important and the D had made some good stops. Alas, the D got too much of the load thrown on them to answer the bell when we had to have it in the second half. The O, particularly the QB play, has to be able to rise against all quality opponents. Part of learning curve we currently find ourselves in I suppose.

*Scarlett had some good carries, but your first line back simply can't cough it up like he did, Perrine had some good carries, but the Dawgs and the scoreboard put the clamps on the running game as the game progressed. It is tough to win when you've got to have that component when the throw game isn't producing and it gets cut off.

*Our little option package wasn't as productive as it has been (shocker). We had to know that UGA would be prepared. Jones was late getting into the pitch on one that resulted in a fumble and loss of yards. Probably not the best call for the freshman at that time.

*Seems like a lot of our sideline horizontal stuff and a couple of throws to the flats were into a numbers disadvantage. Stands to reason as we have relied on this stuff to bolster our passing. They had us scouted pretty well, but that is Kirby's forte.

Very concise and spot on C2. Franks is incapable of the playing the QB spot from the mental side of the game. And as great as that goal line stand was by the D, they folded worse than a cheap suit at the end of the first half and on UGA's first drive of the 2nd half. Both would have been key momentum helpers. A good read as always C2. Hope you are getting back to some normalcy from the horrible storm!

I hate to pile on but Franks was the difference in the game. We had zero downfield passing threat and jawja knew it. They started stacking the line and and stuffed the run game late in the game.

I am fully on the Mullen / Grantham train after today. I think they both called a great game. The call to open the game was perfect and a TD there would have killed jawja's spirit. The second drive, we were moving the ball until the fumble. The defense was hurt when we lost Henderson. It will help us next year, getting the others experience, but we're doomed the rest of the year, if he can't come back.

I really liked the way this team battled today.

2 things stuck out to me which I expected.

1. The talent gap with guys like McWilliams and Taylor. Vosean lacking any kind of speed. Reese the same problem. I put franks in this group as will. He is physically gifted, but it is clear Mullen is doing everything he can to manage the guy.

2. I saw something I've never seen before. Fred Johnson pulled left on a play. The a$$hat is 330 pounds. With a running start, he slams into a 190-200 pound safety who was filling the hole. He didn't have a running start. The UGly safety stonewalled Johnson, even knocking him back a yard. What a pussy. I never seen anything like it.

Joseph's one helluva an athlete. I love the kid. Is it just me or does he look undersized for a linebacker?

What I really wanted to say is he too often fails to wrap up.

Most of the guys who showed up today won’t be back next year . With the exception of Freddie and perine on offense . I’m ready to say bye to Scarlett and feleipe . JS isn’t difficult to replace and feleipe isn’t a championship level QB. On defense the backers should return. We probably lose polite and Zuniga . Turn the page on Felipe and see what what we got in. Jones . Feleipe doesn’t fit what dan wants to do .
Plain and simple. Add to the fact he sucks and it’s a no brainer . Move on to
Emory !

Franks was definitely a big difference. $100 arm and a .10 head is not a good combination. As stated, even with the progress made and the good performances this year, he still seems to struggle when the pressure of the moment is high.

I agree that we battled today, though the effort was plagued with mistakes.

To your point about Fred...he is obviously a great kid and a good student. He is not, however, what you need as a starting OL in the SEC. It is telling that he has been in that role a couple of years now.

A point I meant to make in the OP was that on a lot of UGA's better runs, we had kids trying to tackle their backs while being blocked which led to easy escapes by the back's for extra yardage. That we couldn't shed the blocks and the Dawgs executed with that kind of effort was ultimately a difference maker. Our lack of size was a contributing factor and has been against some better OLs in the last few seasons.

Emory's pass would have been a TD. The defender made the right call to hold him. I like what I saw in him in such a tough situation. Frank hurt us in his miscues. I liked the game plan just poorly executed by Franks. I hope our Secondary improves by seeing our starter back in play. The young talent got beat too often today.
It was a tough lost especially since I pastor in GA. The only good thing is tomorrow is a youth luncheon fundraiser. I will have a nice crowd there to tease me. I will just smile and laugh as I see more funds for the youth.
I will be pulling for the kitty cats next week.

Today was disappointing, no doubt. However, it's clear that this team has no quit in it. Before the season, I thought we'd be lucky to win 7 games. After the Kentucky game, I thought we'd be lucky to win five games. Now, even after this loss, I can see us winning out and finishing 10-2. What a remarkable turnaround this year has been.

Go Gators!

Thank you Cover2. Excellent as always. I think everyone forgot this is still a rebuilding year. I'm pretty sure next time we win an NC Franks will not be the QB. Jones looks like he has a high ceiling and may be ready for next year. We still have a good shot at winning the rest of our games and ending up with a very successful season. This game was fun for a while, but I really hate losing.

Well I think many of us got caught living in a fantasy believing we were actually a top 10 team, but today brought us down to reality. I think we are a good top 25 team, but we clearly have a ways to go. The inconsistencies, costly turnovers, and once again penalties hurt us this game; however, our biggest problem is that our average recruiting class right now is about 15 and uga's is about 3 or 4. As much as we hate to admit it, they are the better team, and what's more disheartening is that unless something changes soon, they will be the more talented team for the next 3-4 years. That doesn't mean we will never beat them in that span, but it will be tough. Mullen has a steep uphill battle to reclaim the SEC East.

Hopefully these guys will bounce back next week, but losing a game like this and knowing that you're probably not able to win the East is a pretty big downer that will be tough to recover from. A lot of teams have let down games after losses like today, so hopefully Mullen can get their heads up and motivated so that we can at least win 10 games and play in a good bowl game.

Every time we seemed to have the momentum, uga would take it right back. Going into half, after we scored a td in the 2nd half, after the goal line stand and we cut it back to 6. UGAy answered the bell each of those times to take the momentum right back. It was frustrating to watch for sure. This team doesn’t seem to have any quit in it though, when was the last time we said that? Hopefully we finish out the year winning every game, and with EJ getting more touches. The hell with the redshirt now, get him some much needed experience.

Mentioned too, how sleek Joseph looks. Even Reese is slim looking. Yes too many times I've seen "non-stop" tackles of just bashing into the ball carrier with no wrap-up. One time our guy bashed the RB, but in bouncing off, our tackler inadvertently got his arms 'caught' around his legs and 'inadvertently' brought down their RB. This must be pointed to in film study. You're right 78, that non-wrap crap has to stop. Every Gator sure hustles though.

We looked like Mullen's old MSU teams. Barely any passing game and the staff as a whole called a terrible game. WE GOT OUTCOACHED AND OUT TALENTED. WHY THE **** WOULD YOU RUN QB POWER WITH A QB YOU KNOW HAS BALL SECURITY ISSUES? OR THROW SCREENS ON 3 AND 9? OR LET THE DEFENSE PLAY OFF AND THEN GIVE THE TE 4 STRAIGHT CATCHES? FRANK'S IS WHO HE IS BUT HE WASN'T THE ONLY REASON WE LOST.

1. SCARLETT FUMBLED
2. MCWILLIAMS GOT MUGGED ALL GAME
3. COSTLY PENALTIES AND BAD PLAYCALLS
4. PASS RUSH
5. IF WE START EMORY WE GO 7-5. HE'S NOT ANYWHERE NEAR BEING READY.
6. ONCE FRANKS HAS THE MENTAL PART DOWN WE'LL BE CONTENDERS.

The constant blaming of Franks for everything is ridiculous

Hey! Maybe Mullen could suggest: "See you have too much yet to learn for you to jump to the NFL ... it be best you stay a Gator."

Hopefully they get that message. It would be nice to have a lot of senior leadership next year.

The damage Butters did especially to the defense is evident and will take a couple years to clean up the mess he left depth wise! This year was about improvement over anything else and DM has achieved that so far. Now let’s finish the season strong and put together a great recruiting class!
