Did Mullen Call Out the Fans?

Here's a crazy idea. Make the tickets cheaper and reserve fewer seats for students since they aren't showing up. That will bring in more fans.

Someone mentioned this in a prior thread. Seems some brain surgeon decided to require student ID's to use student tickets. Wasn't the case in my day. Let all the uninterested students sell their tickets to real fans and the stadium will be back.

The last time these fans rolled out, we were beating what’s currently a Top 5 team. Since then we’re 1-1. No excuse for not showing up.
I can't believe Mullen actually said that. Miami won 5 chips with half empty stadiums on a good day. Mullen needs to STFU, stop worrying about who's in the stands, and start worrying about recruiting and the product on the field if you ask me.

When you.lose to Kintucky and Mizzu at home... and blame the fans.

Mullinz was a 4-4 guy for the last 8 years.

I don't argue too much, but I do take a point of exception with this premise of Mullens and those like him.

First it's just a smoke screen coach speak.

Second, how many fans does it take to win championships, UT has about 10k more seats than us. Has the ever been a championship team with a stadium smaller than ours? How many decibels do the fans need to make? Do cowbells work better or rooster crows? How long do they need to cheer. Etc

I submit that the correlation is weak and has more to do with superstition than sense. Plus, fans=revenue=paycheck

Agree that any reference to the fans, whatever was meant and/or interpreted, should remain unsaid after that display. That said, he has a point, but the reality is that part of the rebuild is winning back the fan base. We all know in our hearts that it won't be done or at least will be delayed with losses to the Missouri's of the SEC, especially when the effort level didn't appear to be at the same level to what was put forth against a far better team the previous week.
It's also obvious to me the Cousin Eddie's perception of QB play is scewed. If he can't see that Trask is a much better option than Franks, he's no QB guru. When asked he made that moronic obfuscation about "well I make changes at running back too and nobody comments." Then he wants to blames the fans for not showing up. puh--lease.

If Trask has better accuracy than Franks, the coaching should have been dedicated to him.
Trask was a better QB in high school than Franks is now. Franks was a horrific passer then and now, coupled with brain farts situationally. This is on Mullen. Trask would have completed that flea flicker to open the Georgia game, etc, etc, etc. This reminds me of the so called competition between Treon and Grier when everybody but Mac could see that Harris couldn't carry his jock.

So now fan attendance determines wins and titles? Silly me, I always thought it was the other way around. He's quickly burning all the good will he's built.
Can't make excuses after that display. He needs to own this and get it fixed. The last thing he should be worried about are the fans, regardless of how pathetic the showing was.
That's right. The only thing Cousin Eddie did right was pulling Franks for Trask, but I'm doubtful that he will have the wherewithall to make it permanent. He seems to think that he can raise the dead in Frank's case. As bad as the defense has been, that clown cost us at LEAST the Georgia game.

We showed up in 2005. It was ugly. We got smoked in Tuscaloosa, lost a maddening game against Lsu, needed STs play to beat 5-win ut, scored nothing beyond Q1 in Jax, took VU to overtime and lost to Usce...and we still showed up in the final game against the noles.

Again, we’re asking 18-21 olds to forget the last few years and start again. But we can't expect the same things from fans?

Again, not dismissing the coaches. But the support is garbage and no where near 1990 or 2005.
The harsh reality is that fan attendance is down universally. Too many other options available along with football apathy, high prices etc. When you couple the general trend with a poor product, you get what you got. Mullen laid an egg in bringing it up even if true. There was too much poor execution visible to critcize anything else.

We are 4 - 5 in our homecoming games since 2010. I think we need to stop having conference opponents other than Vanderbilt scheduled for that game.

Wife and I watched game on TV. Prior to kick-off I said to her both the team and crowd seemed lethargic. Not a good sign.

Why would you. There were tons of seats there yesterday disguised as fans like you. Bandwagon fans do jump on and off quickly. Lose to UK? We suck just like mcclwain.......win some games like LSU ,jump back on cause Mullens has changed the mindset. Ooops beaten up in Jax so we suck again and stay home from Gville. In all kinds of weather left the station with Urb's esophageal spasms. I will say this, the alumni on the west side are still bringing it. In fact a lady in her 70s had me find a place for her walker yesterday so she didnt have to worry about it. I guess elite aint gettting here fast enough with a guy that is 8 games in with the mess the other guy left.
Go look in a mirror for my answer to this lame shT................
