What are these losses doing to Pat Dooley's health?

He has been around the program 30 years. He should have friends everywhere, sources everywhere, nothing should surprise him, and he should be well AHEAD of the curve, not insisting Butters rumors were bullshyt on the day he was fired.
Exactly. It's inexcusable that he never has one shred of inside information.

And he shows absolutely zero desire to change it.

Hell he doesn't even know anything about football. How do you spend your career on something and not ever acquire any expertise in the subject

It's not a matter of expertise. It's a matter of willingness on the part of the home writer to burn his bridges for the sake of reporting. Most aren't willing. I'm not trying to say that's good or bad. It is what it is.

I'm talking about analyzing what is going on. He doesn't have a clue. He can't say the OL is strong or weak, which players are promising on the 2s or practice, he just doesn't have a fvkking clue.

Beat writers rarely delve deep into the details. They're there to deliver the main message.

Hey, I'm not here to defend this writer. I'm simply trying to translate what little I remember from 30 years ago in terms of intent.

Pat's a smart guy. You can tell from his questions from the media conferences. I have no idea why he writes what he writes. That's his gig.

I once looked up some of the salaries at the SUN and I was really surprised. I knew these guys didn't make much but WOW. How do these guys even manage to keep the lights on?

In the end you have to kill something and drag it home if you want to eat.

For decades newspapers just "were". Now they have competition. Cant just print news from two days ago off the AP wire and expect people to hand you money.

At some point you have to realize that you must provide SOMETHING worthy of people's money or they wont give it to you.

Nothing, some time ago he admitted he is not a Gator fan, but rather a reporter. A very poor and entitled one in my opinion.

I have no issue with their age...My issue is relevance.

Where have the Keith Jackson's of the world gone?

He is a bit of a poor man's Verne Lundquist, generally not aware of much more than the color of the jerseys... and sometimes getting the teams' names wrong.

Pat seems like he's going through the motions. He needs a job as a DJ on Sirus Radio...That's what he's good at...Old Rock...Not Gator Football

Dooley reminds me of one of those St. Bernards with the barrel on the collar.

Dooley used to be good for a rib-cracking chuckle. His joke about Uga committing suicide was Numbah 1...but that was a long time ago, alas...

Good post. Anymore, small papers have only one thing going for them. Local news. UF happens to be local. The Sun treats it like it's a cute little novelty.
