What are these losses doing to Pat Dooley's health?

Good post. Anymore, small papers have only one thing going for them. Local news. UF happens to be local. The Sun treats it like it's a cute little novelty.

It's a paper, who reads those?

It's a small paper in a smaller market.

So Pat is an average at best reporter, at the end of a career, in a dying industry, in a small market.

Sad really

No one should offer better Gator news. And govt officials, coach, biz people respect even hard hitting journalism if it is well researched and fair.

Just reprinting whatever the SID tells you and your ipod list isnt journalism. An intern can do that. Ive seen where they orinted exactly what the SID told them to say, word for word. In fact, I wouldnt be surprised of that isntje norm.

Pat should be wearing his Gator Chatter shirt as a thank you for all the content he gets from here.

Why do both these guys look like they are posing for a photo in the 1800's with the stoic looks on their faces in every picture?

Really? The 3XL?
It was a 5XL. Pay attention.

Also, my post was an obvious joke, but it flew right over your head. You have really been slipping lately. Is it senility? You're pushing 70 my friend, these things happen.

You never used to do this - you were a message board dynamo. It's kind of sad, like seeing Willie Mays stumble around in the outfield for the Mets.

Ox with some sirius smack talk. My 21-year-old does it, too. I just open that wallet full of hundreds and shake my head.

These two statements by Dooley in his pick-em are quintessential Gainesville Sun/Dooley:

SOUTH CAROLINA AT FLORIDA:
I’m not really sure why anyone cares what I think. I have missed more Gator games than I have gotten right. And I have no idea where this team is mentally. South Carolina, 30-20.

The first line is the most accurate thing he's written in a while. The second underlined statement shows the problem. The local beat writer should have more insight than what everyone on this board could bring from proximity, access and relationships. I'd trust Marianna's take on what's going on behind the scenes more than Dooley.

For those mildly interested, Andreu picked the Cocks by a nearly identical 31-20.

Beat writers rarely delve deep into the details. They're there to deliver the main message.

Translation: You might as well read Scott Carter as any of the beat writers.

The herd all feed from the same trough. And “insider” scoops and leaks are far fewer and less reliable than they used to be.

I don't think there is such a source. Nobody in newspaper is killing it, though. That's for sure.

Edgar Thompson from the Orlando Sentinel took a swipe at new media a couple of weeks ago. Which was dumb and misapplied. Podcasts, analysis etc. go at the news from entirely different angles. You never see an in-depth analysis of stats or film in traditional media.

I don’t like the dwindling of the newspaper industry but given the shift in journalism the last 40 years from reporting to “making a difference” - ie advocacy of expanding government - its just as well.

Team clearly checked out after getting smoked by Georgia. I don't expect them to check back in tomorrow. I'll be surprised with anything more than a lackadaisical performance.

If you're right, do you blame the coaching staff for this or are we starting to learn that a lot of this may simply be the mindset of the players they inherited?

Same thing with Shane Matthews he some how kept his job on the Steve Russell show and despite being around the team all the time picked at 17-13 defensive win for the gators against Missouri, I lol. He should have walked back in his cell, like drunk Otis on Andy Griffith, and shut the door behind himself.
