After the last week of watching hoops and the debacle for homecoming I'm taking a bit of a break after FB season. Maybe after the xmas break things will look better for basketball and maybe the FB team will wake up and win a bowl game. This is just freaking brutal.

It will be a rebuilding year. Lower the expectations compared to previous seasons.

I suspect by mid-March, "fans" will be calling for Sully to be fired.

Team will be good again. Setting the pitching rotation and finding a new closer are key, but he's got plenty of arms. We need to solidify the catcher position. Brady McConnell will be the SS. He had won the starting job last fall as a true freshman and then got hurt early on and missed the rest of the season. Garrett Milchin, who missed last year due to injury will be back as a duel threat pitcher and hitter/infielder. Brady Smith may take over at 1st base. 2 freshmen are battling for the 3rd base job and look for Jud Fabian from Ocala, who is graduating early and enrolling in January, to vie for an OF spot. A solid group of veterans mixing with a very good recruiting class. I expect them to be a Top 10 team once again.

Heading out to the scrimmage now. Will try and have a few updates. the one thing I do know is that Keenan Bell is no longer on the team and have no idea if or where he has transferred to.

Went to the first 7 inning scrimmage today. almost like a mid week game crowd although most were Santa Fe fans. Game ended 0-0. Defensively we had Matt Damon at Catcher, #6 at 1B (not sure name) Reese at 2B, McConnell at SS, Acton at 3B. Langworthy, Dalton and Nellie LF, to RF. Ty-Dy started and pitched 2 innings and Santa Fe got some good swings on him and had some decent swings the entire game. Every other pitcher threw 1 inning. Santa Fe loaded bases in 3rd, but not Baker's fault. 3 defensive miscues. Reese threw high to 1B trying to complete an easy double play (reminded me of his throws last year), Acton misplayed a grounder at 3B and Matt Damon tried to pick up a ball with his catcher's mitt instead of bare hand and dropped it. We had a few good swings but never threatened to score other than being thrown out at home plate once on a great throw by Santa Fe RF. I presume Mace, leftwich, Hunter MacMullen, etc. will pitch in game 2. lastly we had 3 bad baserunning miscues in the game 1, so some things don;t change in that regard.

Keenan Bell transferred to the University of Tampa and Shane Shifflett transferred to the State College of Florida in Sarasota.

thanx Ocala. I forgot about Shifflet. I hope they both do well. every year there are a few guys who move on and one that seems to be a surprise. 2 years ago it was Reyes to UM and this year it was Bell. But they have plenty of guys, but going to be more of an up/down year than the past 2.

Bell is a great 1st baseman, but struggled hitting against SEC pitching. I think he saw the writing on the wall and figured he was losing his starting job this year and did what was best for him. Wish him the best. We get Garrett Michlin back this year and he can pitch and play 1st base. Brady Smith can play there if he's not catching. Plus we have some talented freshmen that will be on the field. Cory Acton and Jud Fabian, I believe, will both be starters for the good guys.
