For those who care to see Kerwin's offense in action, the NCAA Div 2 semi-finals are on ESPN 3 right now. Started at noon. I've been keeping up with VSU/Kerwin's stats this season and they have been cranking out some serious numbers but I haven't seen them play yet.

Already up on Notre Dame of Ohio 9-0 early in 1st qtr.--scored on opening possession and then blocked a punt.

I really am surprised a big D1 school hasn't hired him for an OC job yet. If that is what Kerwin wants....probably only wants HC jobs.

30-24 w/ 2 minutes left. VSU has less than 300 yards of total offense.

This may have been addressed in previous posts, but what is the reason KB has never received an opportunity at a D1 (legit) program? There are so many slugs in the coaching ranks that I assume it is more than X’s and O’s.

my guess is that everytime an AD googles his name, they are treated to a video of a grown man spiking a football into his nuts

I heard it was because of his kids early on.

Also, few teams now run is Offense. I wanted Muschump to pick him up but...

IMO, the only "change of venue" job Kerwin would take involved UF - his dream. Kerwin's a bit of a private modest person. He stayed put at JU to insure stability for his family - his developing children. It is telling that he immediately joined the HC search roller-coaster, roller coastal, once his oldest, his son, the star QB at JU graduated. If the vagaries of CFB coaching ever slip KB in the needed slot (HC, OC, QB coach) Kerwin will outperform the mediocre coaches already out there.

Has been offered, turned down a few while a JSU because being near family was more important at that point in his life then going out of the area to coach football.

He spoke to our Gator Club when he was at JU. He's a likable person and I can't imagine an AD sitting across from him and not wanting to hire him.

There are very few coaches that go from where he is (in a lower division) to a D1 job, especially a P5 job. Kleiman at NDSU is about to take K-State, which is 1AA to P5 - a huge move (his previous boss at NDSU took the Wyoming job, a 1AA to G5 move, and Kleiman was elevated to head coach). Chris Hatcher crushed it at VSU and then got the Georgia Southern job, where he was ultimately fired (he's taken 2 other 1AA jobs since: he went to Murray State and now Samford (where he had a losing record at MSU...and 18-15 at GSU - he only won big at VSU). I could see Kerwin getting a 1AA job or taking a OC job at a lower level D1 (like Troy, Southern Miss, UAB). I'm sure he's been offered QB coach gigs at SEC type schools, but he seems content as a head coach at a smaller school. I can't imagine he makes much more than $250K at VSU, so he'd get a big pay bump if he left for a better/bigger job. If he wins the NC at VSU hopefully he gets a job he wants. Otherwise, VSU may be his final stop (he's 53 now, so not young...but not too old to take over another program).

When I was a kid he would visit the schools and I have a few family members that coach on the high school level in the small towns around Mayo. Kerwin is the real deal extremely likable. The only big school job I could see him taking is UF, just because it's home.

If someone said already forgive me, but didn’t he get in trouble at JU for financial aid improprieties? Basically putting kids on scholarship which is illegal. I wonder if this “cheating” is still dogging his career?

Yes, he did get into "trouble" there. I'm not sure if that has impacted his career or not, he did land the VSU job which is a step up from where he was. And I'm sure most non-scholarship programs are doing something similar to what he was doing, he just got caught. If you ain't cheatin'....you ain't tryin!!

Know a couple of guys who played for a few of the teams in those leagues. They were all doing the same things with scholarships, etc... he got in trouble, because he wanted to go full scholarship model and JSU didn't. So then it was pointed out.

Agree, these schools help football players two ways: getting into school (as most wouldn't have been accepted as a regular student) - and - getting them financial aid. If the money is there (financial aid) I don't see how that is cheating. It's using available resources.

Also, (and not being a dick), he was at JU (Jacksonville University) as I'm sure you know. JSU is Jacksonville State (in Alabama) and they are a scholarship 1AA program.
