Seems like the fact is we can’t sell what UGA and Bama are because we have to get back on top to get top talent...it’s a harder row to hoe but the facts are facts... the thing I don’t get is how Richt can sell anything but mediocrity that’s the battles we need to win to get the state back the Florida pipeline is where we win the league the fact that Bama and UGA get top guys is going to keep happening we gotta win the state and get back to the top then we can start competing I think 19 in Orlando is gonna be what changes things around for us
Hell we can't even land second and 3rd toer talent. There are no excuses for a coach that makes 6 million dollars a year to fail this miserably. Stop making em.

In my experiences, nothing in life is that simple. SOS was admittedly not an ardent recruiter, yet he still got players to come.

We haven't had a 5* since Tez and CeCe. Bad recruiting doesn't cause that. In a talent rich state like Florida, there must be something else going on than just bad recruiting.
Recruiting has changed since SOS was here and he great recruiters in zook, stoops, Jimmy Ray Stephens Dwayne Dixon, and spurrier landed top flight QBs.

Other than their scheme being very much run-based, a top flight RB picking them right now is one of the dumbest things imaginable given their current roster. Maybe we'll get a chance in his transfer year.
They’ve got two guys that’ll probably be gone after next season. Cook is no threat to a Sanders type kid. White? Is coming off a knee issue. If Holyfield bolts early, then Sanders is in the 2 rotation.

If this class wiffs, I am all for hiring Ron Zook back, name him assistant head football coach, recruiting coordinator, and let him coach special teams. He was the best recruiter we ever had here.

Not discounting that entirely, but the issues run deeper. We are admittedly behind in facilities and have been for some time. But the bigger issue is we just haven't been viewed in the same light over the past decade because of on-field performance and haven't had that "splash" moment where we reasserted ourselves. The fact that guys like Fields and Sanders are/were looking at uga is a prime example of the trendiness of recruiting. No different than us signing 6 or 7 blue chip WR's in 2006. Sometimes kids just want to be a part of things. Right now, we're just not that program. I'm not usually the "wait'ill next year" type, but I'm not sure we have a whole lot of choices. We can make needed staff changes, but that's not going to solve the '19 problem. Between the improvement in perception and some added recruiters, hopefully we can make '20 a game changer class. But again, I wouldn't be opposed to some wholesale changes based on what looks likely at them moment.
Not hoping for wholesale changes. I hope he brings in one good recruiter.

Zook wasn't a great recruiter, he was nothing more than a time-slot hit; the UF brand was huge at that time because of Spurrier. If Zook was our head coach now, he wouldn't be faring any better than Mullen.

He was pulling 5 stars to Illinois. He was without a doubt a great recruiter. Listen to Chris Leak on the big 3 podcast, he talks about how zook recruited him.

I just don't buy the" our problems run deeper than bad recruiters " theory anymore. Miami and FSU are dumpster fires and meyer just retired. We have more stability than we've had in the last 10 years and this is one of the worst efforts we've seen.

The claims that we don't have great recruiters and we've fallen from grace in general can absolutely coexist. There's a reason why I began and ended my post with the statement that some, possibly much, of our problems are related to the recruiters themselves.

But what we're witnessing today isn't some new phenomenon. As other's have said, this is basically a re-run of virtually every class dating back to 2011, with 2012 being the lone exception. And even that one had us losing a Tampa kid to Usc and Diggs to Maryland, with many people asking the question, "why can't we land a ____?"

For close to a decade, with many interchanging parts and personnel, we've largely sang the same song every single NSD. Kids who'd start the Spring game going to be a guaranteed RS behind 5 players at another school. Kids playing us all along only to make a bizarre pick at the end. We used to land kids the moment they got an offer at FNL. That's not happening anymore because the luster we once had isn't there right now. Hopefully, it's a trend that will run its course with some overall improvements. But it's been going on since well before Mullen.
