Leave it alone. Stop with the meddling and tweaking. Same with the goddamn rules. You want to change something to make the game better? Get rid of the god awful targeting BS.

This got me wondering about what changes I'd like to see actually take place in the games. While I agree that targeting needs cleaning up, I at least support the idea behind it. For me, I have always thought the one thing the NFL right does that NCAAF doesn't is Pass Interference. It seems ridiculous that PI over 15 yards is not a spot foul. The DB has no incentive not to foul on a long play if he thinks he's going to beaten.

As the man likes to say, discuss.

Like the NFL:

-Runner isn't down unless he's touched. It's ridiculous some clown can trip over his own feet in open field and can't get back up and run.

-Need two feet in bounds for a catch.

I agree with Ox, Two feet. I disagree on some fool tripping over his feet. If he trips he trips he is down. Make it like the NFL where the clock doesn't stop on a first down.

Agree about PI. Defenders have absolutely no incentive to NOT interfere if it's past 15 yards. It's a no-brainer with the way the rules are. They're getting a little better about the targeting BS. It's an easy call/no-call if they'd just be consistent about it. If a defender leads with the crown of the helmet, it should be targeting. If the person they're tackling lowers their head to initiate contact to the head, that should be a no-call. Things happen too fast in the game for defenders to be responsible for the offensive player's actions that may lead to head-to-head contact in a bang-bang effort type play. I also think the ball carrier using their helmet as a battering ram into defenders should be a penalty. Also agree with what Ox just said about non-contact trips and falls and 2 feet in bounds. They have to do it in the NFL, why not start teaching them to get them both in bounds at the college level?

I oppose all targeting rules. It's football. It was fine the way it was.

Agree on the down rule change. I hate watching a rain game knowing if a player slips he's done for the play.

That's ridiculous. Let's say a guy makes a great diving catch in space. Why should he not be able to get up and run if he isn't touched?

how often does that happen that they land and get back up.... he is down, it's down.

Doug, any comment that says "make it like the NFL" gets a down-vote.

I'm tired of the "let's f*ck w/ the clock" rules changes that are designed to speed up the game. This ISN'T the NFL! Leave it alone.

The NFL has a goal w/ the clock: make the game as close to 3 hours as possible. They roll the clock on ANY play that is anywhere near the sideline (if the tackle is anywhere near the out-of-bounds marker the clock rolls). I like that college football is longer (time wise) and usually more plays (# of plays per game). CFB is a different game than the NFL.

I agree on the targeting BS, but unfortunately don't see anything changing. The new KO rule (fair catch, get the ball at the 25) is all about "player safety" (at least they didn't get rid of the KO).

Don't disagree it's a different game, just don't agree on stopping the clock for every first down. I do prefer the College PI rule. NFL recieivers go up for Cheap PI's when they know they have no shot at the ball.

I hear you...but the next time you watch a game, the clock literally stops for about 7 to 8 seconds (in real time). They move those chains quickly, it's not much of a stoppage. I would be okay if they changed to rule to only stop it within 5 minutes of each half (end of the 2nd quarter, end of the 4th).

I'm torn on the PI calls. Maybe if the pass is over 15 yards it's a 20 yard penalty? It's an advantage to the defense in CFB. I don't like all the "holding" calls on the D on passing plays and that it's an automatic 1st down - it should only be a 1st down if the 5 yard penalty is enough yards for a 1st down).

Agree on the D-holding call.

I'd like Soft Helmets and Soft Shoulder Pads. That eliminates targeting and many injuries.

I played Rugby; the tackling can be just as aggressive if not more.

IMO, it’s the equipment not the rules that is the issue.

Targeting needs to not be a leave the game unless it is intentional. Sort of like the BBall rules there are levels. Pass interference as spot foul is another area that I think better. Perhaps a new rule that long FGs are four points. Replay more like NFL version. Other than the targeting I don't see anything critical.

I might also want the drug rules not so tight on trace amounts of substances that surely don't really effect performance.

I agree with you about NFL receivers. I think the NFL is too quick to call PI (and certain P-5 conferences as well). I like for the DBs to be able to play physical (which we see in the SEC for the most part); it makes the game more interesting. I just hate the intentional fouls where the DB saves his team a bunch of yardage. Seems like the offense get screwed for a great play call or move by the receiver.

Targeting sux unless intential...and I don't think you should get out unless it's your second personal.

Cheap shots yes but not otherwise.

I'd also like the two feet in bounds like the NFL.

I see it happen all the time. A WR catches a ball slightly out of his reach and goes down 5 yards from a DB. In the NFL, he can get up and run. In college, the DB just looks at him passively and walks away. It's dumb. Make the defense get a guy down, even if that means just touching him when he's laying on the ground.

But in the NFL it is very rare that someone does not touch him immediately, so not so often.
