Take away the facemask and see how many people tackle with their head and face.

Watch a little Australian Rules Football or Union Rugby…you tackle with your shoulders and you turn.
I don't know how this isn't obvious. The spearing and head to head hits only became common after the age of leather helmets. remember those huge pads linebackers used to wear to support their necks so they could battering ram people?

Correct, I've said for years that if the NFL or NCAA wanted to protect the players then they should take away the hard helmet. :exactly:

Yet we are becoming Wussy Ball especially in the NFL.

And Rugby came before American Football.

We are going from Full Armor to Flag Football. It's like all or nothing.

We created rules about grabbing, even just touching, the facemask. We can do the same with the helmet and still have real football.

That being said, it can't be a one way street. It can't be a foul for the defender to lower his head, but not the RB.

But getting immediately thrown out is too much on some of these hits.

Why not just eliminate that type of helmet? Even amature boxing does not use a hard helmet.

I'd like Soft Helmets and Soft Shoulder Pads. That eliminates targeting and many injuries.

I played Rugby; the tackling can be just as aggressive if not more.

IMO, it’s the equipment not the rules that is the issue.
I'd rather they take helmets away. Use your head at your own risk.
