Clemson WR Hunter Renfro takes solid shot at Saban

This goes back to the "analyst" and "quality control" positions Saban created when he left Miami for Alabama. It's completely changed college football (along w/ the 60 person recruiting staff):

Shot at Bama? Hunter Renfrow post-game quote raising eyebrows

Shot at Bama? Hunter Renfrow post-game quote raising eyebrows

It’s the “five guys on the field as coaches” part that is getting the most attention. Considering the full quote opens with comparing Swinney and Saban, the end portion of the quote appears to be accusing Alabama of breaking the NCAA’s rule about on-field coaches in games and practice. The NCAA officially allows 10 on-field assistants who “may participate in any manner in the coaching of the intercollegiate team of a member institution during any football game, practice or other organized activity.” Renfrow’s quote is being interpreted as implying that some of Alabama’s analysts are working in practice as on-field coaches. Clemson has exactly five offensive assistant coaches.

I think it is a fair point. You only hire some former Head Coaches who have quality and end up with like 5 power five head coaches on staff. It is a loophole, but I think one that needs to be regulated. Also, don't know if this is the case, but what if there are only 5 coaches on the field at practice...but which five rotate.

I think he has earned that right. Plus he don't have to worry about playing Bama again. Hell talk a little trash.

And Saban has obviously been doing anything to possibly skirt as many rules as possible including buying a damn car lot. Good for him calling out Bama, and as the champ, he gets the last word

There's no question Saban has been breaking that assistants rule. He needs to have his ass busted on that.

When it comes to obeying rules & winning championships, Renfro is merely pointing out that Sabin comes up short.

Did Saban bring this from the NFL? I know they have a ton of quality control guys.

But he won’t. Not until Saban retires will they fix this ridiculous QA problem.
Why is it a problem?

Bc we are too cheap to pay for scouts and game filmer xhoppers, recruiting assists, offensive and defensive QAs, even though we're still one of the top 10 revenue schools?

There are about thirty teams with enormous staffs. As much as the Fooleyites with it were still 1993, that isnt going to happen.

Either we hire, or we remain a middle tier team.

I get what you're saying and I've never had an opinion on it, one way or the other.

But it's a problem because it's against the rules. I would never insinuate adding new rules to level the playing field, but the NCAA needs to enforce the rules already in place.

You're right. UF could easily afford to hire more QA and recruiting assistants. But not every P5 has the same resources.

No, it isnt. Show me the rule or rules they are breaking. There are almost no limits to QAs. They cant make in person recruiting visits off campus, a few things like that.

It is against what you and some others think the rules should be.

But not every P5 has the same resources
I dont GAF about the havenots and Im pissed that we have voluntarily made ourselves havenots.

Anyone else find it ironic that at halftime Saban said they were caught off guard with Clemson running copycat plays of what other teams had done well against them. Really, you have 49 QC assistants, how are you not prepared for everything.

If that's not a rule then I stand corrected. As I stated, I'm not the guy that typically cares about things like this. Whether it's cheating or not, everyone is privy to the same opportunities. And instead of whining, you should just learn to cheat better.

My response was in a big picture view. If the NCAA is going to have rules then they should enforce them. Otherwise, just get rid of the rules.

That last sentence you wrote was not needed. I never asked for your personal feelings. Rendering them useless. But thanks for the info regarding the amount of assistants permitted.

They scoff at 49.

You mean 149.

But yeah, turnover is a bytch.

I like this turn of phrase: “voluntarily made ourselves havenots.” Well said.

If you aren’t keeping up with what the top programs are doing, there better be a good reason. Most places don’t have the $$ to pay like Bama and OSU, but UF should. If nothing else, we should have a plan for growing the staff to match them in the near future.

I would’ve thought a new HC would’ve negotiated the ability to do that in his contract.
