Commentary before the season started but still interesting to listen to. There is no one who ever represented UF better than Chris Doering. Enjoy listening to him and Gene Chizik on the SEC network. I wonder why Doering was never in the coaching profession.

I think there is a similar Kerwin Bell story, but I think he was actually planning to walkon at FSU before UF talked him into coming to UF.

Big fish in a little pond.

Slinger's underwriting P&C, Doering mortgage loans. Wonder who's doing better.

I liked Doering's work ethic, he wasn't very fast but he worked hard on his craft. Made a few memorable catches for the Good guys!

Doering knew the stink of being a nole would never wash off for the rest of his life so he took the chance walking on at UF. Johnson was a Gator QB but acted like a spoiled little piss-ant whining at officials and generally acting like a jerk. He still makes noise years later but not as annoying as in his playing days.

I obviously didn't know that. Maybe he's not as good as he seems.
Yeah, when you grow up here and live here, you meet all kinds of people. Including family members and in-laws of some of these local guys. That's why I can comfortably say he's an assclown. Same with Doug. I've never ran in the same circles as the Ackerman's, but I've also never heard anything positive about him. I've heard great things about the McGriff family, but nothing specific about Travis himself. I've met Travis and had a lengthy conversation with him. He seemed like a pretty good guy, but it was a business setting, so you can't really take much away from that, but never heard anything bad about him.

Back to Doering, his mortgage company is there only because of the name. I've met him in business and social settings, and he's a slimy dude.

Weird enough, if you ever see Shane Matthews around, he doesn't exactly exude leadership like you would expect from a QB. I wasn't really surprised that he just followed Grow into that mess.

He was a GREAT player and is one of the best stories (along with Kerwin) of a guy that exceeded all expectations. I’m sure he’s done a lot of good, too, but I wouldn’t put him on Danny & Tebow’s pedestal.

I’ve got my own warts. Not throwing big stones or throwing them very hard.

I'm an old fart who's been out of the loop since Custer was a Corporal, but I didn't care at all for the way he pissed all over UF after the KY loss. He ranked Florida dead last in his "power rankings," and basically called them hopeless. A week or two later he was back leading the bandwagon, with nary a word about his previous concerns. The guy comes across as a frontrunner, trading off of a couple of big plays that happened long ago.
