I'm an old fart who's been out of the loop since Custer was a Corporal, but I didn't care at all for the way he pissed all over UF after the KY loss. He ranked Florida dead last in his "power rankings," and basically called them hopeless.
So did about 90% of us on here.

The Maris family is a very well respected sports family around here. Knew the grandson and his cousin. Good guys. Some of the in-laws aren’t as humble as the actual family, but wouldn’t believe anything bad about the bunch.

Roger's kid was a decent athlete. Played baseball or basketball or both at Oak Hall. The dad was always at the games.

One of them is the coach at Oak Hall I think...at least was. It was his wife or his sister in law that acted like she was high class

Pretty sure the son was Rog Jr. Nothing pretentious about him or his famous dad, who sadly died of cancer a few years later.

Chris Doering will always be a great gator to me. I couldn't care less about how he conducts himself today as long as he's not hurting anyone. I just watched Doering's got a touchdown again. Never fails to bring a smile to my face. "Chris Doering....I believe we'll give you two scholarships."

I’ve always wondered how the Maris family felt after all that went down with Mark McGuire.
I can’t speak for after McGuire got busted , because the grandson moved to Atlanta and I never stayed in contact with him. I haven’t heard any rumblings through the Gainesville grapevine, not would I expect it from that family.

They were very gracious and supportive of McGuire during the run. I can only assume because of the hate Roger dealt with during his run.

The most heated I saw the grandson was during the lawsuit with Anheuser. That got pretty heated but it was all behind the scenes. They made out with about $85M from the anti trust suit. Not sure how much in the civil. Nor am I sure what happened on any kind of appeal. After the anti trust trial, it was like he was on Prozac for a long time. Pretty stressful on the family during the hearings

I wish they could rewrite the MLB record books to strike McGuire, Sosa, and especially Bonds. It’s a travesty that the record books show an obvious juicer holding the HR record over Hank Aaron. Just ridiculous.

They should have put an asterisk on Willie Mays 660. If he played anywhere but Candlestick he would have had 760.

Ted Williams 521 after losing key years to the war might have been 700. Best complete hitter of all time.

They could've, but it wouldn't have been a fcck off. It would've been thank you for the opportunities. Like I said, I haven't been very plugged in since the grandson moved to Atlanta, and they don't really make a lot of public noise.

Well the baseball coach is no longer a Maris. I looked on the Oak Hall website. I know one branch of the family is 7th day Adventist, not sure what the rest are.

Yeah, when you grow up here and live here, you meet all kinds of people. Including family members and in-laws of some of these local guys. That's why I can comfortably say he's an assclown. Same with Doug. I've never ran in the same circles as the Ackerman's, but I've also never heard anything positive about him. I've heard great things about the McGriff family, but nothing specific about Travis himself. I've met Travis and had a lengthy conversation with him. He seemed like a pretty good guy, but it was a business setting, so you can't really take much away from that, but never heard anything bad about him.

Back to Doering, his mortgage company is there only because of the name. I've met him in business and social settings, and he's a slimy dude.

Weird enough, if you ever see Shane Matthews around, he doesn't exactly exude leadership like you would expect from a QB. I wasn't really surprised that he just followed Grow into that mess.

Ackerman is from the Jax Beaches area and went to Fletcher HS. He's a year ahead of me in HS. He was a complete jackass, bully, blowhard in HS. He was also a pretty boy and pulled a ton of ass. I remember a party where he showed up w/ his football buddies and just started fighting. It was at my buddies house, so we locked all the doors, jumped out of the window and took off. Everyone outside didn't realize we had closed down the party....Neptune Beach's finest showed up and made a couple arrests. I always got along w/ him....but he never really changed his ways in his early adult years. He lost the Bishop Kenny HS head coaching job because of his drinking. He'd probably be a top college assistant by now had he not lost that job in the shameful way he did. Everytime I'd bump into him he was always nice, funny, cordial. Last time I saw him was probably 2008.

To me the biggest douche will always be Noah Brindise. I remember him acting like a bitch about us getting rid of Muschamp and claimed that Gator fans were “spoiled”. He also has had a few drunken twitter rants that made absolutely no sense.
