Here's what I think will happen. Blackmon is going to get murdered on live TV by a DE that is completely untouched probably in game 1. He will have the "our starting QB was out" excuse that will get him to year 3. Unfortunately I don't think he gets out of year three. We just have to hope Briles does something to get them on probation so that the next guy is also a lame hire because the program is radioactive.

Eventually he will go down and out. But don’t let Slenderman fool you. He’s Muck City and tough as nails. It will be the cumulative effect of the constant hits. But he’ll hang around longer than most think possible. He should have transferred.

It's annoying to have to use 7 Ls to spell WiLLLLLLLie. And next year it'll be even worse. We'll need 9 Ls to spell WiLLLLLLLLLie.
How about Wi7Lie? Then you only have to change the number and it's the same number of characters.
Unless he loses ten, of course.

I need to pause and ask a favor. As much as it brings me joy to see this thread staying atop the forum, I'm having an uber shty week and could use seeing the 'Mac got fired' thread back up here again. Though, I can't find the damn thing to bump it. Anyone recall which thread that was?

FSU, offensive line coach Greg Frey part ways

FSU, offensive line coach Greg Frey part ways

TALLAHASSEE -- Florida State has moved on from offensive line coach Greg Frey.

Coach Willie Taggart announced the decision to part ways with Frey via a statement on Friday afternoon.

“This morning I informed Greg Frey that we are moving in a different direction with our offensive line coaching position,” Frey said. “I appreciate the hard work and expertise Greg brought to our program and understand how important it was for him that FSU be successful. I wish Greg and his family the best as he continues his coaching career. We are working to fill this position quickly.”

Frey, a former FSU offensive lineman, was with the Seminoles for one season as an assistant. He joined the staff last offseason, coming to FSU in its first year under Taggart after working as Michigan’s offensive tackles/tight ends coach. FSU's offensive line was among the worst units in college football this past season as the Seminoles struggled to run consistently and protect its quarterbacks. Frey, however, was dealt a tough hand as the Seminoles lacked true tackles on the roster and the position was hit hard with injuries.

A native of Clearwater, Frey graduated from FSU in 1996. He was part of FSU's first national championship team in 1993. He's previously coached the offensive line at USF (2000-06), West Virginia (2007), Indiana (2011-16) and Michigan (2017) before returning to Tallahassee in 2018.

This move marks the third departure of a coach from Taggart's original staff that he put together last year. Offensive coordinator Walt Bell took a job as UMass' head coach in December, and Alonzo Hampton was dismissed as FSU's special teams coordinator in January. Additionally, Taggart brought in Ron Dugans to coach wide receivers, moving David Kelly off the position (Kelly is still with FSU at this time, although his new role has not been specified.)

With Frey gone, FSU is expected to quickly fill the void at offensive line coach. The most logical choice for a hire is Randy Clements, who is still listed as the offensive line coach at Houston despite the fact a new coaching staff has came in and another offensive line coach (Brandon Jones) has already been hired. A source tells Noles247 that Clements was still with Houston technically as of earlier this week, but he was not actively in the office. Clements is a logical fit because he worked closely with FSU offensive coordinator Kendal Briles in stops at Baylor and Houston.

The terms of Frey's buyout are not clear at this time, because an official contract is not available. A Freedom of Information Act request to FSU for contracts of each FSU assistant coach in January returned contracts for each assistant on staff, aside from Frey. Only a Letter of Agreement, signed last January, was available. In the agreement, Frey signed a two-year contract worth $650,000 annually, but there was no language regarding a buyout.

Yeah. That’s what was wrong with their o-line last year. The coach. I’m sure the lack of talent, and depth, and the scheme had nothing to do with it. On the other hand, if he was responsible for recruiting o-linemen this year and last, then firing him was prolly the right move.

Greg Frey was/is one of the most well respected names in the OL coaching business. Their problems on the OL go much further/farther than last year.

Then that makes the decision even more foolish. Hate to say it boys and girls, but if WiLLLLLLLie is this dumb and so obviously in over his head, he may get a shorter tenure than we hoped. I was already worried that if that QB get hurt too early, they could have more L’s than this year, also resulting in him getting canned.
