I bet running this board takes a lot of time and effort. Now if you want to make a lot of money do what this site does.

The White Coat Investor | Investment Tips, Tools & Guides

He is a doctor who makes more at this and his other associated projects than being a doctor. He also has great financial advice from him and the various posters.

Now if this violates policy, please remove the post.

When I needed money once, I came very close to selling one of my livers. I knew I could get by with one.

You should consider selling one of your hearts, it’ll fetch more. Plus, I’ve been told by a doctor that you only need one to live.

How does one come up with a valuation for a website? Just curious.
There are a number of formulas and calculators on the web that can help with that. It all has to do with your profits, obviously.

I'm a moderator on an automotive forum. It's international, over 175,000 members, many paid with several dozen sponsors. I've stopped by the owner's house, it's very nice. He actually sold the forum a year or so ago, it's a full time job so the new owner kept him on as CEO. I think he does pretty well.

I wonder how much he sold it for.

I don't know about that. Great guy though. He had a great idea and really worked hard for a number of years to build up a niche forum which is world renowned as "the" place for info.

I have toyed with the idea of copying his model. I know one niche that could use his format.

One reason I paid up when I signed up here is I know what it takes to administrate one of these forums ox. You do a pretty good job. Get you a couple of sponsors and you might really have a passive income stream.

The problem is it's not a very good niche for sponsors. An automotive forum is absolutely ripe for all kinds of products that companies fumble all over themselves to be sponsors. Who would sponsor Gatorchatter?

We should talk. I can think of a dozen good sponsors for you.

Maybe you could get the Gainesville Sun to sponsor GC. They are obviously flush with cash and appreciate the value of investing in message boards.

Ox, by passive I assume you mean income that is a bi-product of owning the site and not actual passive income subject to passive loss limitations. I would think the income from Adsense comes by way of a 1099-MISC, no?

Yes, I’m getting 3 different 1099-MISC’s from three different ad sources. Adsense is only a backup source now and makes me very little money now.

I don’t like paying taxes on any of it. “Passive” meaning I’m just sitting back and collecting money. All the hard work has already been done.
