Well since all the news on the board seems to be sour, I figured I would just add to it by starting this weekends baseball thread. A below average Gator team hosts an average Tinerc team. UF sports a stellar 9-15 conference record (1-11 on road, 8-4 at home). Tinerc sits one game ahead of us in the standings at 10-14 in the East. Mace starts Friday after an awful outing last Friday. Leftwich goes Saturday and ????? on Sunday. I am guessing it will be Pogue this week b/c he had a decent 5 inning start on Tuesday against a terrible USF team and Sully tends to stay with a warm hand if he has one. I would have said "hot hand", but the word "hot" and UF pitching do not belong in the same sentence.

For Florida to get an NCAA tourney bid, we need to win at least 4, probably 5, of our last 6 games (Tennessee & Missouri). It's possible, but not likely - still a chance.

Pretty much must win time. If we can take 2 of 3 this weekend, we'll at least still have a shot at the post-season heading into Mizzou.

Tennessee is basically the opposite of us. They win with pitching and defense because they struggle at the plate. We've played well at home in SEC play, so let's hope that continues

Baseball team's chances of making the NCAA tourney have gone from slim to almost none tonight. Tommy Mace gave up 9 runs in lesss than 4 innings and the Gators trail 9-4 in the 7th.

Huge comeback win. Great relief pitching from Kirby McMullen & Nolan Crisp. Maldanado 3-4, 3 RBI's and 2 GR's, including the game winner in the bottom of the 8th. Wil Dalton went 2-4 with 3 RBI's, Jacob Young went 2-4 with 2 RBI's and Brady McConnell went 3-5 with an RBI. Brady Smith went 2-4 and scored 2 runs.

If I had not been there and seen it with my own 2 eyes, I probably would not have believed it. Mace was terrible again and what looked like an insurmountable 9-2 deficit turned into a 10-9 gator win. Lots of things went right and the offense woke up, but player of the game was clearly Kirby Mac. without his 3.2 innings of scoreless ball replacing Mace, that game would have gotten completely out of hand. Great job Kirby and no reason not to have Uncle MO on our side for Saturday.

Mace isn’t rotation material yet alone a Friday night guy . Hopefully Jack can get it together and give us a quality start tomorrow

This is the worst Gator baseball team I have ever seen, and it's not even close.

We were 29-30 in 2013, 14-16 in the SEC. Got a gift invite to the NCAA tourney and went 2 and out in Bloomington, Indiana. 28-28 in 2006, 29-30 in 2007, with no NCAA bid. This team hits very well, but I agree that this is the weakest pitching staff I can remember at Florida in the last 30 years.

And don't forget about giving a shout out to the infield defense. The worst I have ever seen. A catcher who barely can catch, but has improved a little. A 1st baseman who is not good, a weak armed, converted outfield at 2B who is not an infielder, a SS who can't get to any ball unless it is hit within one step in either direction and then is subject to errant throws ala Blake Reese, and a frosh 3B who has a good arm but waits forever to throw to first on a grounder hit to him. In game 1 UT does that fake double steal trying to score from 3B with the funner at 1B getting hung up, essentially conceding an out. Well we could not even execute that. The pitching mainly, followed by terrible defense is why we are 10-15 in SEC play. Just not a good team this year.

Accurate analysis, IMO.

LOL.....Well I just didn't feel like this bunch was worthy of all that detail.....the E6's and passed balls at catcher make me think of the Bad News Bears most every game. And yes anything more than 3 feet from the SS is automatic. Flabbergasting....I expect Sully will clean house.

And the pitching is failing us again. Leftwich was OK thru 4 innings, but was relieved in the 5th by Ben Specht, with a run in and 1 on with UF ahead 3-2 and he proceeded to throw 11 pitches, giving up 3 hits, a wild pitch, a 2-run single and a 2-run HR, getting nobody out. Butler came in to get the final 2 outs, but we're now down 6-3, needing another comeback.

Gators fall 8-7 and had the tying run on 2nd base and winning run at 1st base when the game ended. In the top of 7th UT has bases loaded and 2 outs when a grounder to Mcconnell got "stuck" in his glove allowing a run to make it 8-6. In bottom of 7th and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Matt Damon lines to right center. Runners are holding just in case of a catch and CF dives and does not make play. Langworthy scores from 3rd, but Nelly slips around 3rd, face plants and has to go back. So with men on 2nd and 3rd and one out trailing 8-7 we can't get Nelly in and that is how the score ended. Terrible pitching from leftwich with UT having another 5 run inning on some questionable managing decisions and poor pitching and just could not overcome that big inning today. A winnable game that hurt our tourney chances. BTW UT played great D and did not help us at all, like we help them.

Too bad the tying run was lost when Maldanado fell coming around third on a double from Smith. But after that we had runners on 2nd and 3rd, 1 out and Dalton & Calilao couldn't get anybody in. And we still had 2 more innings to do something, got 3 hits but couldn't get the big one. But once again terrible pitching was the story. You score 7 runs against a lowly hitting team like Tennessee, a good team will win. Sunday is an absolute MUST game if we're to have any chance at an NCAA tourney bid.

I hereby declare the Gator baseball season as OVER!!!. They dropped 2 of 3 at home to Tennessee, losing 5-4 today after taking a 4-1 lead in the 5th, have lost 8 of their last 12 overall games and 7 of their last 10 SEC games. At 30-23, 10-17 in the SEC, they simply aren't good enough and don't deserve an NCAA bid. If they go into Missouri and sweep them (no chance in hell!), they would still need to win a couple of games in the SEC tournament to get serious consideration. They're DUNNN!
