I think it's only fair to say after this season plays out as UF won't be the only team with attrition. This could work against the ranking if things get worse, but measuring directly after the announcement of the departures is not apples to apples. It's knee jerk assessment. We should all take a breath. Losing Black hurts the most, but we have some good LB's in this class, while the CB and QB roster/recruiting is going well.
I fully anticipate 247 releasing a revised class ranking at some point in time. Whether it’s for this class or down the line, the landscape is changing.

I agree somewhat...but losing 3 who were all 4-stars hurts and it hurts the rankings. Pumpers can still run with the "we signed a top 10 class" if they want, but the fact is it's actually a 14th or higher ranked class. We're still trying to close the talent gap and losing three 4-stars doesn't help anyway you want to look at it. It's not going to have an impact on the 2019 season at all....but starting in 2020 and beyond we'll look back and say, "man, sure wish we had those extra 4-stars..." (which is why many of us are harping on the poor d-line recruiting).
I agree somewhat, but at least we didn't lose a DL recruit here, we lost at positions that recruiting is going well. How bad is it hurting us that we lost James Robinson at WR? My point is....to assume the teams ranked better than 14th won't lose 4 or possibly 5 star recruits is being overly pessimistic.

247 is saying we're at 14th, 7th in the SEC.

Copied from a post:

* UF's class ended up 9th on NSD (5th in the SEC), with a point total of 276.85.

* Removing Jones, Steele, and Black lowers that to 263.75, good for 14th nationall and 7th in the SEC.

* Even if BOTH Henderson and Zipperer failed to qualify, UF's score would fall to 251.13. As awful as that would be, it would still be good for 16th nationally, and still 7th in the SEC.

If we lose the DT recruit we're really f*cked! Yes, losing Robinson hurt....and losing Russell hurt too (especially how bad our Safety play has been). But assuming teams ahead of us will lose THREE players is naive....maybe after a year or more, but right out of the gate? before game 1? No, I don't think ANY team ahead of us will lose three. Maybe one.....two is a stretch, but not three. I'll go out on a limb and say none of the teams ranked 1 thru 8 will lose more than 2.

If people are going to be hating on Mullen, I don't think it's time yet. He's exceeded expectations since he got here. I don't understand some of it, not at this point.
Real question, what makes what's done so far exceed expectations? The fact that he won 11 games? The fact that he signed a top 10 class? I for real I don't understand why people are acting like he's done such a great job so far. I honestly think it's because he beat FSU and a Michigan team that saw a lot of their key players sit out.

It's like people forget how many game this year could have went wrong but but the calls went out way. It reminded me of Muschamps 2nd year. We were a few plays away from a 4 game losing streak with 3 of those loses to Vandy, Mizzu, and Sc. Now we won 2/3 games but we should have won all 3. We got manhandled by UK which turned into the 2nd game so I give him a pass but imo I didn't see progress week to week as much as I'd like to see until the very end of the season.

Has he done a good job so far yes but has he exceeded expectations I don't think so. He can exceed expectations until he finds a way to recruit at an elite level. 2020 and 21 class is looking a lot better but like anyone will tell you that's a long way off and kids flip all the time. I'm happy they committed I just hope they stick.

I agree that they won't lose three, but to assume they won't lose any is what doing the calculation now is assuming.

I read that the Black scholarship should be available since he never enrolled, they only go against the counter if they enroll (vs. just signing). So we'll get one back at least.

It counts against us for our 25 signing limit, but not for our "counter" limit. That means we could sign a transfer in that slot but we cant use it next year as a countback for the 2020 class.

Make sense?

Guion is from Coach's Mayberry area so maybe he can add some info to that story.....
Letroy Guion - Wikipedia
From the Wikipedia article:
"Guion missed the Music City Bowl due to suspension; he was part of the school's academic cheating scandal that saw 36 football players ruled ineligible for postseason action."

Guess there's a good reason he didn't meet the Florida minimum standards for graduation.

I really like this kid, even though his tweet shows why he didn't qualify, he has a positive attitude and loves the gators. I imagine this is a failure on 2 parts. The school system failed him and he may have lacked enough parental encouragement to overcome a bad school system. Athletes fall through the cracks even easier than others. I believe he has the intelligence. Hope he gets the help to catch up.

This a joke, right?

In stead? I wasn't post to graduate?

Well, just an opportunity for someone else to step up in his instead. Too bad because the guy could really cover the supposed route.

I think you miss the point in your last paragraph. Losing them now versus two years from now is not that different. In theory, if they’re transferring, they’re not contributing, no matter when they do (unless it’s a grad transfer but that’s different). A 5 star who doesn’t contribute for 2 years isn’t much different than Steele leaving after 4 months. The main difference is perception. And in this case, the transfer isn’t the perception hit - it’s the recruit that allegedly raped two women and the potential mishandling of red flags presented to the coaching staff.

Okay...this is like the "stars don't matter" argument.

Would you rather have 15 4-star kids to work with or 15 3-star kids to work with? I hope you said 15 4-stars.

Okay, so now...would you rather have the three extra 4-star kids in the class or have no kids in your class? I hope you said you'd rather have the three 4-star kids vs. no kids.

If they get weeded out they get weeded out (usually due to not being able to crack the lineup) - a few years later. This is completely different. These kids NEVER even got a chance to get weeded out. They're gone. Never on the roster (at least during the season). This is devastating to the class. I have no clue why you're trying to sugar coat it. Maybe we land a couple of transfer? Who knows...

No, it’s nothing like that argument. Losing Steele now is way worse than losing McWilliams.... ever. The point is that the classes above us will suffer attrition from highly rated non-contributors in the near future. It’s the reason most reasonable people agree that a true measure of a coaches recruiting ability would be measured 4 years after the ink dried. Losing Steele would certainly negatively affect that 4 year score but no more than Fields would affect UGAs or Grimes would affect OSUs. Losing 3 (or 5, depending on grades) is really bad... now... but if we keep the rest together (at least for the most part) the overall impact may not be a whole lot different than other teams down the road. Stating otherwise is disingenuous and you know it.

Sugar coating would be me stating that “we didn’t need him anyways”, which I don’t think is true at all. Every team covets shut down corners - losing one sucks.

The only way you're right in this scenario is if we don't lose anyone else from the class and they all contribute/become starters. This class got off to a 3 man head-start on the classes ranked above us. So, starting now...if our class and all the other school's classes have normal attrition we are STILL down three 4-stars from the class.

Losing three to five off the top doesnt change the fail rate of the other twenty. Half or more of those will still fail to develop, get hurt, transfer bc friend/mama, or whatever.

Love an argument that starts off with "most reasonable people agree", you know some schit not based on facts is going to happen next.

You're argument is dependent on Mullen getting a substitute asset that covers for the loss of a 4 star guy(s) that have been lost. Fields/Grimes do not factor into this discussion, because both already had substitute assets in place. What are the substitute assets on the already depleted roster from the previous two regimes are there to take the place of what was lost?

@SeabeeGator You gave the facepalm but didn't explain where I was wrong in my statement, would you care to give me reasons why I'm wrong? I'll wait!
