Yes, Foley is about 100% to blame for the facilities issue. But Mullen had "full control" over the hiring of the recruiting staff. And if he didn't, he should have read Saban's book, "Saban". When Saban took the Alabama job, in order to leave the Dolphins job, he told Mal Moore (AD) what he needed and wanted in regards to recruiting or he wasn't taking the job. He got EVERYTHING he wanted and EVERYTHING he asked for. That was Mullen's chance (and I'm sure he made some demands before he left MSU, but to what extent?). He hired a band of misfits to run the recruiting office, he brought over an adulterer from MSU, and the office continues to be disorganized. I know half this board is in the "you can't say anything bad about the coach" mode, but this is on Mullen. If he fixes it he could have a long tenure here....if he keeps pulling in 14th ranked classes, 7th in the SEC classes? Well, he probably won't last more than 5 or 6 seasons.

I am definitely not in any pile that limits what I say or don't say and do think Mullen has a lot of blame, especially in the staff he brought. But there was stuff mentioned here (not really interested in looking it up and quoting it) that implies that there is a definite ceiling to how much the recruiting staff can grow. I even think someone mentioned office space too. I am sure most of it was embellishment, but when you really think about it, I bet there is a culture in the AD where a lot of stuff isn't needed. But yeah ... it ultimately comes down on Mullen, but if the AD isn't supporting then who actually can succeed here. You have to believe that our AD has a good understanding of how the other ADs in our area are operating and it only makes sense to always keep a pulse on that. Especially the programs that are succeeding where you are failing. There has to be some top driven actions. If I was the AD, and that wreaks of stupidity because I would be a horrible AD, I would at least have the understanding to look at blueprints around me that are succeeding.

If Mullen truly does have his head in the sand, then it really just isn't Mullen that is the issue, it is our AD too. There is a whole lot of evidence showing how the AD views the football program. Actions speak louder than words.

I used to laugh when I would watch RoPo running around doing semi circles on the edge trying to figure out how to engage or get around an SEC offensive tackle....
weve got a dozen of those guys now

I'm torn here.
As a fan I think it's ridiculous that he left because he didn't get his way. Stick with your commitment and if the coach tries to make it right, man up.

But.....as a parent/son I 100% understand. I wouldn't want my kid around the Jones situation and if we tried to get him out of there before something happened, then it's a very unfortunate "I told you so".

In the end it's done and over and time to move on.
I saw somewhere that he committed to UCLA then to USC before he signed with us..........is that true?

You pretty much have to agree with this. In the end for a Coach to have long term success(more than 4 or 5 years)at a program like UF that Coach better have AND exert a good amount of control....In the end it's his a$$.

Furthermore this isn't something new in CFB...guys like Osbourne, Switzer, Schembechler, and such ruled the roost and would tell an AD to go f vck themselves. UF seems to be an exception where the Coach is only supposed to take care of what happens on the field. It doesn't work that way for long(see Butters and Chump) and you end up with guys who don't know how to build a program....

I don't know if this has been reported but in an article from the Athletic with reference to the Steele matter (among others), Stricklin says:

“I can say that what is being reported is an incomplete account of the circumstances as I understand them"
Q&A: Florida AD Scott Stricklin on off-field issues,...

Is that a polite way of saying that Steele is a lying mother flipper?

I suspect we will know soon enough what UF's position is on this. Only real statements out there are the girls statements from their hospital visit. Still waiting on the honor board (or whatever it is called) to finish their stuff on it as well. I got a feeling that CS is pulling a Cam Newton.

At this point, I am not sure how much we blame Mullen for this and how much we blame the AD. This seems to be a theme that spans the last 3 coaches (maybe even Urbs tenure, but obviously didn't slow him down). Butters, as much as I hate that fat shart farking fark ... complained about it and got roasted. .
Yeah.... I dont know.

On one hand, Mullinz seems to be hiring the same people he always hired and getting basically the same results.

That being said, we still hire at minimum wage (and brag about Warren being free)... and lose coaches who get double or triple the salary elsewhere (even though I dont miss Charlton or Sunsieri a bit).

As for our support staff, we still have a dozen or so, while Bammer, Clemson, and Ugly have hundreds. There is no diubt in my mind we are paying half or a third the going rate there also and are only alotted a couple for film study and a couple for recruiting. No one, even unemployed guys, seem to be running to us asking for a job. No doubt there is a reason.

Mullinz can wish to improve the staff, but I dont know how he can do it. Bammer has more nutritional staff than we have quality staff total. It still looks like same old same old to me with respect to budget and salaries.

The Cincinnati Reds USED to be a top notch team that fought the Yankees every year for a WC in MLB, but their ownership decided they werent going to compete in the free agents and high salaries. (One year the entire outfield switched from Reds to Yankees.)

A terrible front office can doom a team, no matter how dominant and storied you the team used to be.

I see no evidence that anything substantial has changed or that we have any intention of competing.... except with having the highest paid admin staff and the largest percentage of budget spent on them.

I dont thinknthe problem is Mullinz.

All offenses' running game work much better when their receivers block downfield or on the edge.
Quezzie, Ike and Reidel couldnt block well, and yet we blew every team out.

Spurrier clearly cared more about running routes and catching the ball.

Of course it would be great to have both but a receiver those unicorns arent available often (and good receivers arent going to an option team anyway).

UF won’t be able to comment much due to the whole student privacy issue, but the fact that a statement was released at all is pretty telling in itself. If Steele was 100% or even close in the right, UF would be hiding behind the student privacy and laying low

Different era that is hard to compare to today. Their threat of getting open was the best blocking they could ever do. A great WR blocks well just by being on the field. Not sure we will ever attack one of those here with this offense.

We were strictly a passing team and we only ran in the second half. We ran 90% draws which do not require any WR blocking until the RB was downfield.

Spurriers gig worked for a while until the DC figured it. Nickel and dime packages and flooding the passing lanes.

He got his ass handed to him by the NFL DCs but he did learn a few more running plays while he was there. His SCE offense incorporated the running game as an integral part of the offense and was completely different than what he was running at UF.

Saying that "what is being reported is an incomplete account" really isn't informative. It is middle of the road politic'ing that allows you to appease any side of the situation. Steele reads it and agrees immediately. JJ reads it and agrees immediately. The girls read it and agree immediately. Those here handing out torches and pitchforks read that and agrees immediately. Those determined Steele is a lying POS read it and agree immediately.

Its high level politic'ing.

I dont believe Honor Court does anything with Jalon now that he is no longer a student.

State's Attorneys office may be another story.

Yeah... it says nothing.

I wish he had at least said we have reviewed our own procedures and took appropriate action, although I understand why they arent going into details regarding the staffers who were fire/left/whatever.

At this point, it is about future recruiting.
