The '80s were filled with great running backs. Herschel Walker, Marcus Allen, Bo Jackson, Thurman Thomas, Barry Sanders.

None of them was more entertaining to watch than Emmitt making something out of nothing with that incredible sixth sense.

Got to meet him the summer of ‘87 on Florida Field during a Florida Football Camp. He was running 100 yard sprints pulling a sled with an offensive lineman sitting on it.

The strength coach at the time (Woten?) called him over. The coach told us we should expect great things from this kid. This was the summer before his freshman season. Little did we know...

Even though I’m younger (17 years younger than Emmitt) yeah it does make me feel older because I had no idea I was that close to him.

Rich Tuten I believe was his name. Emmitt told a story about his freshman year where he bench pressed until he sat up and said "I think I'm going to throwup" Tuten grabbed him in a headlock and stuck his finger down his throat and when he finished he said "you feel better now" I'm not sure you could do that with today's players.

Met Emmitt while living in the Ghetto with 3 other roommates. We pretty much had kegger parties every Saturday and had developed quite the fan following.

While standing on the front porch with a bunch of others none other than Emmitt as well as Kyle Morris and some other players approached the door and asked if they could attend. Of course they were invited. The visit didn't last long as pretty much everyone was getting high inside the house. As Emmitt left the party I asked why they were leaving so soon and Emmitt replied dude we are getting really high off the smoke. He smiled and left with the other players.

Tuten… I met him through Tuten and Coach Al (don't remember his real name) when I was at Football Camp. Got to play pool with him in Yon hall, thanks to Coach Al. Then started to see Emmitt more often in the springs in the 90's when he was coming back to school to graduate. He would work out at the track at the same time we were there working out. Always was a pleasure to run into him.

I’m at a conference this week and Emmitt was a speaker yesterday. Such a great guy filled with stories and great messages for all. I got to shake hands with him, he has a genuine smile for everyone he meets.

Considering some of the headlines lately, nice to have a reminder of some of the class acts that represent gator nation.

Great video. You keep hearing hand offs by Donald Douglas and Lex Smith. Trust me when I say they were worse than most of the Champ or Mclwain QBs we saw the last few years. We had Emmitt and that was it. THey knew he was coming and he still got the yards. I swear to all that is holy and mighty that if he plays in the SOS offense one year he averages 10 yards a carry. He averaged 5.6 yds a carry in the Defensive minded SEC (with very good fsu defenses each year). WITH NO real passing game at all. His speed was deceptive. HE was full speed in a heart beat.

Certainly great on the field, but has had almost nothing but disdain for UF since he left. He hated Spurrier and it went downhill from there.

Pretty sure he was repping us when we won titles under Urban, including the Fox commentator role during the first one, I believe.

He also returned in ‘91 and ran around the field with the UF flag after we beat the hated Noles. 14-9 forever.
