Mercifully the regular season ends Saturday as the Gators travel to Mizzou and put their 10-17 SEC mark on display needing a sweep to have a thought of making the NCAA tourney. Unless of course we squeak into the SEC tourney and happen to win that one. :lmao2: See you all next season :bananawave:

Not even watching. I'll be watching NCAA softball instead - Not just Gators, but whatever good matchups catch my eye. I'm done with UF baseball until next year.

Good for them. Glad they just did not go up there and mail it in as they notch their 2nd road SEC win of the year. Guess Ocala and I should have thrown in the towel much earlier in the year and perhaps the record might have been a bit better :headslap:

@FireFoley and @Ocalaman,

I've seen young pitching before. I'm not sure youth explains such poor play. You guys have mentioned the issues on defense as well. What can Sully do in the off-season to fix this? Is there anything he can do?

I agree with you about the pitching. We've had young pitchers come in before and be weekend starters as freshmen who were very successful (Logan Shore & Hudson Randall come to mind). Others who were successful throwing mid-week games their 1st year and then becoming successful midweek starters as sophomores (Alex Faedo, Singer, Kowar). Mace has been our best starting pitcher, but he's more of a Sunday starter than Friday night, IMO. Leftwich took a step back this year and Dyson seems to be a head case who disappeared. defense has been an issue, as you said. We've had an outfielder playing 2nd base because senior captain Blake Reese just couldn't hit and got benched. You have to have McConnell's bat in the lineup, but he's made more errors than we're accustomed at short. Calilao has been OK at first and Acton has been pretty solid at 3rd. Smith is just not a very good defensive player, although he's been better of late than he was earlier. He's obviously the best we've got, though, when you factor in his hitting. You've just got to work with the guys we've got, see who the new recruiting class can contribute right away and maybe bring in a transfer or JUCO guy who is ready for prime time. There were some real talented arms projected as stars in last year's recruiting class, but they've just not performed up to their capabilities.

WTF????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Leftwich throws a 2 hit, complete game in a 2-0 Gator win. Are you kidding me, LOL? where the hell has that been? Leftwich's first complete game. congrats to him, but boy what a head scratcher. Better late than never I guess, but this is more shocking than how poorly the team has played all year. Langworthy 2 run dinger accounts for the Gator offense.

Our Gator players should have been playing with higher caliber skills all season long. Then jacking that up for postseason -- that's the Gator baseball way. Make the best of the rest. And solve it for next year.

Now who pitches tomorrow? They had Dyson warming up in the bullpen late tonight. I hope like heck that my prediction of the season being over was premature, but they do need to win tomorrow to give them a chance. Incredible tonight, though.

Pogue starts game 3. He had a decent start against USF and then another one against Tinerc, so he has earned another chance. Between you and me, I prefer not to see Dyson on the mound, unless there is no other option.

Start time moved from 3 pm to Noon EST due to bad weather moving into the area mid-afternoon.

You are right about Pogue. Gators's starting lineup now posted on the Live-Stats section of the Floridagators.com baseball schedule website. O'Sullivan's decisions about who to bring in from the bullpen will be critical. Will need more than 2 runs today.

Retook the lead in the Top of the 8th on an RBI double from Matt Damon. Acton had a chance to add to the lead, but couldn't do it. B8 now, up 4-3, Christian Scott on the mound.

The broom! Who would have thunk it? 1-11 in SEC road games and getting blown out in most of them has just swept a road series against a decent Mizzou team. 13-17 in the SEC will probably get them into the tourney as a 3 seed and I hope valuable experience for the future. Gotta hand it to the players for sticking with it.

Being 1-11 in SEC road games going into this weekend, I saw ZERO chance of them sweeping #22 Missouri. But they did it and I am so glad to be wrong. Pitching came through when we least expected it and this may be enough to get the good guys in the NCAA tourney. Would be nice to win a game or two in Hoover, AL next week just to make sure, though.
