UF softball opened Super Regionals with a 3-0 win over Tennessee, as Kelly Barnhill continued her post season dominance, throwing a 2-hitter. She was not as sharp as normal, falling behind batters and having 8 3-2 counts, walking 3 and hitting 2 more. But when she needed an out or a big pitch, she came through, as the Vols didn't hit the ball hard all night. Meanwhile the Gators got 7 hits, including 2 from Alex Voss, plus RBI's from Lindaman, Reynoso and Hoover. The Gators improved to 48-15 on the year, Barnhill to 33-11. Game 2 in Saturday at 6 pm where it's expected to be 98 degrees in Gainesville.

Barnhill has been incredible in the post season. 1 run allowed in her last 7 games. Lots of heart from her and the rest of the team.
Looked like she had an issue with her middle finger on her pitching hand, maybe a blister or a cut. It seemed to be bothering her in the middle innings last night, she seemed to be a little off with her location on quite a few pitches, and the umpire didn’t help with his Pringle’s can strike zone, but she came through when she had to make a big pitch. Hopefully that finger is not going to be an issue going forward.

NOT SO FAST! The Gators cut down the run at the plate and we’re heading to the 9th!

UF softball dropped a 3-2, 9 inning heartbreaker to Tennessee Saturday night to force a deciding game Sunday at 2 pm. Hoover & Adams had RBI's for UF. Gators had plenty of opportunities, but both teams stranded a lot of baserunners throughout the game, with the Vols getting the walk off win on a bases loaded walk from Natalie Lugo in the bottom of the 9th. Kelly Barnhill pitched into the 8th, but was removed after 2 walks. Katie Chronister gave up a single to the only batter she faced to load the bases, setting the stage for Lugo's walk. The 7 other WCWS berths have been filled, leaving the UT/UF winner Sunday filling the final slot. Barnhill will most assuredly be back in the circle for Florida.

They better get it done today. Bar hill wasn’t sharp in game 1 despite getting the win. Unfortunately it caught up to her yesterday. Not entirely her fault, hitters need to hit and drive in runs when the opportunity presents itself, defense needs to do their part and so do the coaches. There is no excuse for us to get knocked out by a much lower seed than us so go out there today, ladies, and kick the bejeebus out of those toothless Vols!

Tennessee is very good, too, and I think we were seeded too high. Got rewarded by the committee for playing a rugged non-conference schedule, but anyone who has watched our softball program for the last 10+ years knows this is not one of our better teams. Weakest hitting team of the Walton era. Also, Tennessee has 3 quality pitchers, while we just have the one stud. Strike zone has been unusually tight with this group of umpires, but it's been that way for both teams. Just need to get hits with runners in scoring position and that's plagued us all year. Hopefully we can get this win today, but I would say with their pitching depth, UT has the advantage. It would be quite an accomplishment to make it to OKC, considering the weakness we have. While the SEC is extremely competitive and very good from top to bottom, there are no true national title contenders this year IMO. Only Alabama and the UF/UT winner will be in the WCWS and I don't think any of those 3 can make it to the finals. The 4 teams with the pitching quality/depth and the bats to go with it are Oklahoma, Washington, UCLA & Arizona.

UF Softball wins their Super Regional Sunday with a 2-1 8 inning win over Tennessee to advance to their 10th WCWS in the last 12 years. Despite having the weakest hitting team of the Tim Walton era and finishing 6th in the SEC, this team has relied on pitching, defense and timely hitting to win in the post season. Today Sophia Reynoso got a 2 out RBI single in the 1st inning and Jamie Hoover cracked a 2 out RBI single to win the game in the bottom of the 8th after UT had tied the game 1-1 with a solo HR in the top of the 7th. Kelly Barnhill was stellar again, winning her 34th game of the year in holding Tennessee to 4 hits. The Gators will open World Series play Thursday night at 7 pm against Oklahoma State. Regardless of what happens in Oklahoma City, just getting to the World Series this year was an amazing accomplishment.

The program is headed for decline.

Walton recruited a bunch of girls who aren't very good. It's actually embarrassing how bad some of these players have performed.

There are at best 3 quality players on this squad and two of them are seniors.

I would give Walton two years at best.
This post has aged well.
