There was no gear just a hat and I'm sure he didn't bring it with him.
It amazes me that this erases all the yards all the touchdowns, rug burns and workouts he endured while representing the university of Florida. It's possible Hernandez is more popular on this board than he is. I truly hope his son signs elsewhere he can never measure up, just as Taylor never could. I can't see him going to Florida or Georgia so doubt it is an issue.

Taylor never measured up because he had a worthless coaching staff and strength and conditioning program. Just because someone offers you a hat, doesn't mean you have to put it on.

I can admit the picture is hard to look at but, I can't understand how it can change the way you feel about the guy.

I was in school when Emmitt arrived. He was my favorite gator until Timmy showed up. That said, his comment about being an adopted Cane when he was running with Michael Irving & Co coupled with that photo in Athens takes the shine off a bit.

The correct move in this case would have been for Emmitt to say thanks for the toilet paper and then wipe his a$$ with the hat.

I didn’t like Emmitt putting on that hat either. However......................
All I know is that if you have kids you do a lot of stuff for them you don’t really want to do. If one of the top five football programs in the country wants my boy on their team, I might have to put that hat on. It’s just the way the recruiting game is played.
Thankfully I live in the NW (no way my boy goes to college in the south, unless it’s UF) and he’s not a football player but a basketball/baseball player (UF advantage on both accounts).

Yeah, fcvk Emmitt. If he was sitting next to me right now at the Mexican restaurant I’d pimp slap him for that comment...without spilling a drop of my Pacifico.

Based on his lineage, I was gonna guess that he was on the dope smoking team...and was 1st Team All American & USA Today National Toker of the Year.

Here’s my take on Emmitt.

When I was a kid, JL Williams was my first favorite player and I idolized the #22 jersey. So, at the Fan Day of ‘87, as an outspoken 6 year old who didn’t quite get the whole “players graduate/jerseys change” thing, I marched straight to him and asked him why he thought he could wear JLW’s number. He was great, spent a few minutes laughing with us and signed my fan. By the end of that day, I’d forgotten about everything and had a new favorite player.

For those of us in that generation, he WAS UF football. He was everything. When I watched him cry after the Aub game in ‘89, I cried. When he got hurt, it was like our whole world ended. He was that special. The bizarre part is that unlike many others who were the direct connection to the next generation, to me he was just an unexpected bright spot that kind of came out of nowhere, was awesomely special, and ultimately had no direct link to what followed. In that respect, he’s actually on one of the strangest stories in Gator history.

Of course, then he became a cowboy, embraced Irvin and the canes, forgot to mention UF in his HOF speech and has now been seen in a uga hat.

In short, he’s become the Tessio of Gator Nation. Not a bad guy, and did tons of good. But also has a tendency to get swept up in things and ultimately make the seemingly popular, yet wrong, decision.

GATORS DON'T DESERVE DERISION FROM EMMITT

GATORS DON'T DESERVE DERISION FROM EMMITT

Larry Guest of The Sentinel StaffTHE ORLANDO SENTINEL

February 3, 1993

Pardon me, your E-ness, but UFlorida doesn't deserve the damaging backhand rendered by Cowboys star Emmitt Smith during Super Week. In one of the player interview sessions, Smith told Florida Today's Pete Kerasotis and several others with tape recorders he regretted going to Florida, suggesting he might have won the national title or a Heisman Trophy at run-oriented Auburn and lamenting a batch of letters with racial epithets from Gator fans when he left UF a year early.

"Every year I was there, there was some kind of controversy, some kind of dark cloud hanging over us. . . . It was pure hell down there. . . . I gave that university everything I could possibly give it." Well, not quite. Not his senior year of eligibility, and that decision, though publicly supported by new coach Steve Spurrier, resulted in the mail with racial overtones. "Said I was sorry. Cussed me out. Told me I would never make it in the NFL," Smith said of the Gator fan mail. Copies of the story, reprinted Monday by USA TODAY, has no doubt been mass-produced by rival recruiters and sent to UF prospects and their parents. Spurrier and the Gators deserved better from Smith.
