Hey guys. I know I've kind of been mia lately (I still lurk of course). But I applied and got on with the Virginia State Police. It's been an awfully long hiring process, almost a year to be exact. It's finally over though, and I start the academy August 21st, will be in Richmond for 8 months. Get to leave on the weekends. So lucky me Ill get to see every gator game this year. What I was getting at though, is any fellow gators here been into law enforcement? What's your opinion specifically the academy. I'm sure each department and state is different. But I figured most of it, is about the same. Thanks for taking the time to read, and I look forward to all of your replies. GO GATORS!

Congrats! I am one that appreciates law enforcement personnel for what they do and have to put up with.

Did you bunk with Mahoney, Hightower, and
Tackleberry, and celebrate graduation at the blue oyster?

Jokes aside, Congrats and stay safe.

Hopefully he gets someone like Callahan as his trainer.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'll be working in new kent county. They dont have a local police agency so I'll basically be doing everything plus working the interstate. Very low crime up there though, and super rural. Might try to live in yorktown or Williamsburg. Both are within an hour drive.

Since you're looking for advice, here's some...

Wear your swim trunks in week 4 when they teach you to willingly allow scum bags to douse you with water guns, water filled balloons and buckets filled with water.

Luckily for you, your attending during the warmer months. That drill, in January, sucks.

Hightower, Tackleberry and who could forget Mahoney.

Congrats...I was expecting a post about a reboot or something about the movies.

Congrats and prayers for your safety.

What an honorable calling and tremendous responsibility that can be rewarding in very elementary ways.

My advice to you, especially if you are married, is be careful not to bring home your intensity and frustrations - find the most effective way for you to unwind and debrief from the day's drama and make that part or your daily routine.

The only thing more difficult than being a LEO is being and LEO's spouse.

God bless and Go Gators!
