He's not the perfect QB for Mullen's offense, but neither was Chris Leak, and he's definitely a better runner than Slides McSlideserson was.

Yeah but our Oline was much better. So once the FB was added and Tebow became the battering ram, the offense became pretty effective.

Unless play calling in the run game changes to accommodate run blocking deficiencies, this offense is going to stall against elite defenses like Georgia.

That 05/06 offense wasn’t that special though. Didn’t really start moving until Latsko was implemented mid-06. Wasn’t really hitting on all cylinders until 07.

The so-called Latsko Effect. And here I was all this time thinking #8 and #15 were the catalysts.

Takes a team my friend. Have to have an environment that allows a superstar to shine before it can. As always, that starts in the trenches. Latsko just shored up the OLs weaknesses.

the WR screens ;( ... especially when the D is set to cover with numbers on their side. Mix it up with slants or other short plays where our guys are moving forward . Throw in more motion or misdirection something to open the dang screens if you are going to keep calling them.

Last time I checked two was a larger number than one. Especially this two.

Were either of them blocking for the other? Seems like an important thing to have for a QB that runs up the middle or a WR that thrived on plays in space. Blocking opens the lanes up the middle and blocking allows time for plays to develop/opens space out wide.

I'm quite sure Mullen didn't want Frank's keeping very many times last night.
Even with that teams deficiencies they weren't afraid to lay the lumber.

Sas I like your takes on the game because, you can see some things live that tv viewers see completely different.

Also I would like to add that Grantham went absolutely nuts on Chatfield twice, the second time on the long zone read run their running back had. The first time the other dlinemen were laughing afterwards but, the second time nobody said anything.
I was just wondering what he did or didn't do.

Wait a minute, Franks isn't white? How'd I miss that?

I didn't want to be the first person to say it but I thought he was white as well? I couldn't figure out why Ox was a racist for wanting the black kid to play over the white kid? Frank's is lighter than me, he must have some albino genes.

The great thing for me at the games is we have endzone seats, which give a perfect view of how the plays develop on offense that you definitely don't get on TV. It's frustrating to watch games on TV for that very reason. Show me the receivers!

I agree with a lot of takes in this thread. Strange.

Ox is right: FF would have to run for DM's offense to really work. The thing is, I'm just not sure FF is able to run consistently. He does OK on broken plays, but otherwise his running isn't providing the impact required for this offense.

How bad is the O-line if we couldn't dominate the LOS and impose our will in the run game against UTM? I shudder to think what we'll be like against the talent of Auburn, LSU, and UGA. The 3-and-outs and 3d-and-longs (what I'd call a "near 3-and-out) will bury us against real teams.

The question was asked last week: what will the UTM game tell us about Franks. The correct answer was "nothing". There wasn't anything he could do against such an inferior team that would move the needle on him.

Short passing game is what can open up the running game. Gonna have to be a pass to set up the run offense until this line gels.
