UTM is constantly dropping 8 men and rushing 3 on defense
,,,
The offensive line continues to worry me, they just aren't opening holes up for the run game right now.

Your observation about them dropping 8 into coverage doesn't make me feel any better about our run game.

I agree with Zambo. If UTM were dropping 8 consistently, I truly would have expected our OL to open something up against a 3 man front of 1*-2* players.

They don’t just drop automatically though. If they read run, they fill their gap assignments and play the run. Zone pass defense is far more effective against the run than man to man.

Especially when there is such a disparity in depth and talent level.

He's not the perfect QB for Mullen's offense, but neither was Chris Leak, and he's definitely a better runner than Slides McSlideserson was.

Get back to me when Franks can slide into one of these ...

For the record, I agree with what you are saying but I get triggered when people bag on one of our Natty winning QBs. Especially when they are doing it to defend a current QB. Franks isn't perfect and I think it is unrealistic to think he should be. Tebow wasn't perfect, Danny wasn't perfect and neither was Leak. Franks has always looked good against lesser competition. This is his year to step up and be good all year for the most part. I dont think he was too bad against scUM and he looked good against UTM ... but its about to get real.

Chris Leak was awesome, but he was a terrible runner. I don’t think anyone can dispute that.

His unique abilities to get down just before the marker are the stuff of legends. Totally agree, I loved Leak as a Gator, but this was his blind spot and it was as much a part of his game as him watching his pretty passes like a Reggie Jackson home run.

Always loved when Leak wanted to prove his toughness. Inevitably would end up air born, sometimes summersaulting. He was tough though. Could take a hit and get right back up.

Great point and it reminded me one of his other particularly frustrating tendencies (remember, loved a lot about the guy, great Gator QB, heart of gold, etc., just poking fun at a couple of game ticks) was his slow motion, against the grain spin move from a sack that would take about 100 years to execute and almost always result in someone else being there to clean him up for additional lost yardage.

I remember it well. He would’ve won the Heisman with Spurrier because his athleticism wasn’t needed. Still, leading a team to a Natty ain’t a bad consolation prize...
