I had us by 14 over UT, by 14 over Kentucky, by 11 over Miami, and losing by 14 to Auburn. Hardly pumping. Heck, if it wasn’t for Franks, I think most of my predictions would’ve been correct - UT underestimate not withstanding.

Yep you acted like Miami would be a cakewalk and KY was no threat to win. Curious to see your Auburn prediction though I think we could win a close one if the defense plays really good and the offense limits the turnovers.

I posted in both that we would score late to pull away. Which happened at Kentucky and would’ve happened at Miami if Franks didn’t go full Driskel. What no one else did was break out in hives over a failed OC and his TEs or elevate a backup from Troy to Heisman status.

Regarding Auburn, they run very well. We don’t stop the run very well. They have an extremely talented DL. We have an OL that can’t run block. Unless they’re just atrocious in the secondary, I don’t see us moving the ball well. Hope I’m wrong - not looking forward to the trash talking from Auburn family if we lose. I need @oxrageous to be right.

I wont even go into the KY game but I guess it wouldn't matter with the bookies what happened at the end.

I saw that Auburn is 5-0 against the spread this season. Maybe they’re due for a bad game, but they really seem to be playing good. If Oregon could’ve not choked that first game away against them, might be looking at a different Auburn team right now.

I thought UF was 3*U? Read somewhere he committed to Auburn less than a month after Mullen was hired?
Yeah, that is what frosts me. Three star U not able to sign a three star. Not the only one. Should have signed another three star from Mullens'stomping grounds: John Rhys Plumlee.

Grantham has been terrible against Auburn when Gus has been their coach. Giving up 43, 34, 49 points with three different teams.

So we got that going for us. Gus is a weird dude. His "A" game is as good as anybody's. Just hope we don't get it.

I don't think he needs his "A" game to win this one sadly. Think we'll need to be plus 3 in TO ratio to win. Think it's gonna be hard to slow down their run game, we need to sell out to stop it, and the secondary needs to live up to their reputation for once this season.

I'm sitting here this week listening to a lot of Gators with a lot of confidence on Twitter and all over the interwebs... so taking some time away to come back here where I know there tends to be a touch more realism (by touch I mean people take a way negative view)....

That said... based on how we have looked in 5 games.... I don't see how we win this game. The reality is watching the team play... I don't think we are very good at all.

Quarterback: Trask has been solid, but he hasn't really faced pressure. When he does he holds the ball too long, takes sacks and doesn't run when he has the opportunity. I'm not confident in his ability to handle the pressure that Auburn will bring.

Running Back: Perine hasn't been running great. Pierce has been better, but with our OL... not sure it matters.

Offensive Line: Horrible... there is no reason for the line to be this bad 5 games in, no matter how inexperienced they were going into the season. How this line will provide any protection for Trask or holes for RBs I have no idea.

Defensive Line: Our best position group, but there have still been tackling issues and when they faced a good OL (Kentucky) they definitely struggled.

Linebackers: Reese can tackle, but can't cover. Burney is solid, but still tackling has been an issue. This group hasn't been dominant at all and with the way Auburn runs the ball and mis-directs this could get ugly.

DBs: Getting CJ back will help, but he will be rusty. Dean had trouble against Towson! Marco has gotten better, but we still have tackling issues.

I know Mullen is a great coach and everybody says he will scheme us to success, but even the best coach can only do so much.

Am I crazy for thinking we lose on Saturday?

The only thing I'd say is that all of those arguments--personnel issues, matchup nightmares, better looking resume to date, questionable QB play--could have all been made, and were, going into the Msu & Lsu games last year. They're all legitimate points, and I'm certainly not implying that we're completely fine and won't have issues with them. But I do think we have players of our own that can create problems for them, the home field advantage may actually be back to some degree, and I think the coaching part you mentioned is really important. It's been a decade since we could truly feel comfortable with a head coach going into a game like this, so the notion of confidence is quite foreign.

If I recall correctly, Mullen was 3-3 against GM while at Msu. So he's had some success, and I think you have two really good offensive minds that will also likely play it close to the vest given what's on the line. That, in my mind, is how we have a chance. If we play smart football, which Trask has largely shown, allow the crowd to be a factor and stay in this game, I think we can win.

Well, after reading about our OL, our lack of tackling, our 1 star QB, our hardheaded coach who won't pass downfield, the super Auburn DL, their polished QB and a their superior coach I think we should just give up on football and turn Florida Field into a soccer venue. WE win by 2 TDs.

Damn, that's a damning prognosis. Being +3 on TOs is a pretty heavy lift, but at least we're going up against an inexperienced QB. I'd like a couple special plays from our DBs, but they at least need to catch the ones thrown to them.

I can relate to what you're concluding, ATX - that just makes this game scary for me. Let's all think on this: have you ever been jubilant because your Gators handled somebody they were predicted to lose to? .... Here are my hopes :

These developing Gators have momentum fresher than Auburn's - our coach is only in his 2nd year of enthusing his players. Gus is old-hat. So surprises more likely arise from Mullen's scheming. We can say DM is "stay the same stodgy style coach", but Mullen was the OC designer of 2 of our NCs, where OSU & OK were so much better than UF that no one thought we would win.?? = gives me hope.

Auburn is good ... they are SEC where LSU and UGa are good. UF faces good teams routinely. This is our homecoming, first one for some exuberant fresh Gators. Hit hard, wrap up. Block well.

A few DBs have gotten a taste for Ints against a Towson QB possibly about as good as Nix. Fresh Zuniga plus Greenard can cause poor throws. Rest of DL, LBs can rally around those 2 leaders. Backbreaking INTs are possible. Force them to pass by stopping their run-game,
put 'em in 3rd and long many times. Our DBs have got to step up = possible - homecoming crowd support.

I surely admire Malzahn's use of misdirection and the run-lanes that open. Wish we did that. I could see Pierce breaking into daylight with lanes. M.Davis, Swain, Copeland etc. need some daylight to run to. Trask needs to pair his quick release with a speedier ball-flight this time.

Who thinks Trask can't outduel Nix? Like Sofla said, individuals may elevate their performances.

Four years ago, nobody thought Chad Kelly would have issues playing in the Swamp because he had just won in Tuscaloosa a few weeks before. Then the game started. He was a petrified deer in the headlights, as bad as I've ever seen from an opposing QB in that stadium. He was shook worse than an abused baby. The entire team was. Bo Nix may have played in College Station, but he hasn't played in the Swamp.

Having said that, that little f*cker can run, so it'd be great if our DL didn't rush too far upfield every single play and let him gash us on the scrambles.
