Florida vs. Georgia Preview – Chomp The Numbers

It's long form writing, that's what I like to do. I find most game analysis is lazy garbage, I do film review of every game, often do film previews as well. I used to write for In All Kinds Of Weather but decided to do my own thing.
You going to spaz out like a crazy person here? I remember you from many other sites - specifically the numerous times you’ve been banned. One thing you have going for you here - ox is fantastically lenient. But he’s also more of a dictator than other places, like AA or Reddit or SG. Either way, welcome. Hope you’ve got your emotion stuff under control.

Good by the numbers analysis.
In my opinion this game will come down to x's and o's versus Jimmy's and Joe's. No question that UGA has a significant edge in talent especially on the OL. Our edge is as you noted is Dan Mullen who is the much better in game coach. Can that overcome the talent edge? A lot may depend on who is healthy enough to finish the game. Greenard and Zuniga make a big diference on edge pressure. But as you noted UGA is an up the gut running team. My guess is that if the edge rushers are healthy we will see more pressure on Fromm coming from there. To your point Grantham needs to step up his in game scheme and walk the corners up for more more press coverage. Having the healthy edge rushers may give him the confidence to do so. UGA's 6' 5 receiver Cager looks to be back which could be a match up problem in our secondary.
Controlling UGA's running game and our ability to create one will be critical. If we can get UGA in 3rd and passing situations we have a good chance to win. Georgia runs well and we don't. In order for us to win our passing game needs to set up the run, and our defense has to be aggressive in coverage schemes, and dialing up pressure on Fromm.

Nice effort. Welcome to GCMB.
I too am in the ATL area and agree with the lack of confidence from the Ugly fans I know. I also find interesting the commets on the radio I've been hearing this week; overly pumpish, but of the whistling past the graveyard variety as opposed to last season and the year before when they were cocky as hell. Trask vs. FF is part of it, but that loss to USCe seems to have damaged their psyche.

Stop Swift and win the game, probably by 10. I think if Fromm is pressured to throw alot to get yardage we get several pics. We cannot let them have alot of yardage on 1st down so hopefully Grantham has a plan. Frankly if we had had decent QB play last year I think we win.

. UGA's 6' 5 receiver Cager looks to be back which could be a match up problem in our secondary.

This kid is a good WR, but the size thing is overblown. Yes, it's an advantage on a shorter DB. We also have Grimes, who is 6'5, and he's gives us an advantage. We see these comparisons often - 'these WR's average 6'3 and their DB's average 5'11..." Well, that's how football works, DB's are usually 5'10 to 6'1 and WR's are getting taller and taller - a 5'11 WR is short these days, but was very common in the 90's. Same w/ OL vs. DL, when you average in the 260lb DE it brings the DL average weight down. It doesn't mean the OL has a huge advantage - it's how football works. The DE's rarely weigh what the OT's weigh.

Anyhow, I agree w/ need to walk up our DBs the the LOS. That's what Auburn did vs. LSU and it slowed their offense down bigtime. We gave too much cushion and got picked apart (vs. LSU). UGA doesn't run the same type of passing game, but I'm sure they studied the LSU film.

I agree that we should be able to handle Cager. I think he is about the same size as Wagner from UK. We played him pretty well even though he made a circus catch for a TD. The risk with the bigger WR's is that they can draw P/I calls. We see that with Pitts and even Grimes. Our DB's need to play the ball and hope the big guy doesn't catch it at it's highest point. Went back and checked the roster and most of our DB's are listed at 6' 0 and some taller.

In addition to stalwart regular 3 & out defense, we need an early interception that sets up Trask & crew for an unstoppable TD drive. Trask needs to do his thing, TD drives one after another. Early on, Gators need to unnerve UGa's D and their O. Have fun Gator gang.
