Would Joe Moorhead leave MSU for Rutgers? Schiano & Rutgers can't come to terms

Speaking of Rutgers, Sports Illustrated had a long article about their program last week. How they were the first college football team (correct me if Im wrong and know you will) and now almost the worst.
everything in New Jersey sucks.

why should Rutgers be any different?

Thank you for a straight answer. And I do credit you for giving actual names in previous posts. Using Gundy as an example, I believe that actually answers question. If one says “we should have hired Gundy instead of Mullen” there can be an actual debate. Records, schemes, recruiting, etc. can all discussed with points and counterpoints. When folks just complain that CDM was the wrong hire with no alternative suggestions it becomes a broken record and is boring as hell. And no I don’t worship at the altar of Dan Mullen; FTR, I wanted Frost (and freely admit that, as it turned out, that it would not have been the better choice). I get that some want a different style of O & D. Personally, I don’t care about that. I just want W’s and titles. I was just as happy with Urbs’ titles as I was SOS’s.

I wanted Frost and still think that his performance at UF would have been very different than his performance at Nebraska. Athletes in Florida fit his offense much better and he had contacts here that would have resulted in much better recruiting.

I’m ok with that suggestion. If he were hired, and produced 10 or so wins in his first few years, I’d be very supportive. But in terms of resume, his winning percentage is very similar to Mullen’s. He averages 8.6 wins a year, is 2-12 against his biggest rival, and had some of his worst seasons in years 8,10 and 14, which is something to which you assign a large value.

That’s the problem with some of the sharp DM criticism. I didn’t even want him hired. But he’s done as well as I believe virtually anyone would have with where we were, and don’t see anyone that has a case for being a clear upgrade over him. Again, I’d be supporting Gundy all day if he’d been hired. But there’s literally nothing that says elite about those numbers.

You and I typically agree, Donkey. If you had your way, who would you have hired instead of Mullen? Or who would you hire now? I'm genuinely curious.
Drunkey loves him some fat, one dimensional, loser coaches.....

Any average coach would come to UF and win 9-10 games, literally hundreds of guys.

You have to really suck to lose to Kintucky, USCjr, Vandy, UT, Mizzu etc. They are all dumpster fires. FSU being a wreck helps too. No coach has ever had it easier at UF.

You like records so...

2001: 3-8
2002: 3-9
2003: 2-10
2004: 3-8
2005: 3-8
2006: 3-9
2007: 8-5
2008: 4-8

MSU’s records the prior 8 years before CDM. I’d say he walked into a worse situation but in I Love Ron Andrew Zook world, the only record that will matter is the 8-5 in 2007. Again, not a championship coach (yet) but you’re ridiculous bias is on display at every turn.

I was in the same boat. Mullen was the safe, stabilizing hire. Frost would’ve been swinging for the fence. I don’t think his Nebraska record is indicative of what he could’ve done here but the traz’s and donk’s of the world say that no matter what - you are what your record says and situation doesn’t matter one bit. Guaranteed failure.

If we’d had a smooth transition from Meyer, I would agree. Not only would we be in better shape, it would’ve also prevented the rise in Athens. But now, with where we fell to, I’d disagree. It will get back to that, but isn’t there now.

Im talking about today. We had 9 wins on the schedule with this roster this year with this talent. We won Auburn and it was a toss-up, the rest of the teams we beat were terribly out manned.

Well, there's all sorts of stories now that Schiano and Rutgers are back negotiating and Schiano backed off some of the demands.

Ok fine. Not technically the case against um or the vols based on recruiting rankings, but agree overall. But you could also argue that an above average coach could lose to a few teams ranked inside the Top-4 with this roster.

Again, we were usually outmanned by one team from 90-2001, and we lost it much more often than we won. I’d still take those years back in a second though, as would you. Swap fsu and uga and we’re likely losing this weekend and playing in Atl the next. That was the 90s. Now, we’re 21 point favorites this weekend and sitting home the next. Doesn’t make it easier or harder than that time. Just different.

Clowns still have good talent on paper too but all three of those teams have epic level loser coaches right now.

No Gator coach has ever had it easier.

We should be stockpiling talent the way Boobie and scUM did while we were on probation in the 80s and on probabation under Daz/Chump/Butters.

Perhaps it’s splitting hairs, but I think Butters had it easier those first two years.
With Jimbob at the Bigtop? he wasn't good but he still was a beast recruiting.

Butters no doubt had an easier path to getting totally destroyed in Atlanta but no one affects our recruiting more than Clown and scUM.
